Kids Market
Editor, Times-Union:Two weeks ago, Rodeheaver Auditorium, on the campus of Grace College, was the scene of a shopping frenzy. Kids Market, the only event of its kind in northern Indiana, sells consigned gently used infant, maternity and children's items with a percentage of the proceeds returning to the individual seller. The remaining percentage of the sale goes to organizations in our community that benefit women and children.
The event, now entering its fourth year, is so much fun. But it would not happen without the more than 200 contributors and 125 volunteers. Because of everyone's involvement, Kids Market will be able to donate almost $2,000 back to the community this year. That's even more than last year! One way that we donated the money this year was by giving shopping vouchers to families at Project Independence at CCS, Heartline, The Beaman Home and Our Father's House. Families were given vouchers so that they could shop for the items they needed.
There are so many people and organizations to thank. Much hard work goes into this event. Grace College has been a huge support for our grassroots organization. Instant Copy, Wildman Linen and Uniform and SYM Financial donate essential items to us that we could not buy. Then there were also five local restaurants who donated food and drinks, and many other businesses that donated door prizes for our volunteers and shoppers.
Look for us next year around the end of September. We'd love to help you sell your kids' and maternity items, we'd welcome your help or donations and we'd enjoy your company.

Hope Tour
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to take a moment to make your readers aware of a special event going on this week, Oct. 11-18. It is The Tour of Hope cross-country bicycle ride, which started Oct. 11 in Los Angeles and will finish in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. I believe this is an important bike ride and most readers probably don't know anything about it.
The Tour of Hope, organized by cancer survivor Lance Armstrong, is a 3,200-mile bike ride by 26 cyclists representing the cancer community. The purpose of the ride is to inform and inspire Americans to learn more about cancer clinical trials. All of the cyclists have been touched by cancer. Nine are cancer survivors and the others are doctors, researchers, nurses and people who have helped to raise funds for cancer research.
I urge your readers to visit the tour's Web site, www.tourofhope.org, and read about the 26 riders making this journey. Their stories are uplifting, inspiring and encouraging. It is truly worth the time to visit this Web site and to follow The Tour of Hope's journey this week.
Believe me, you will be touched by their stories.

Disgusted
Editor, Times-Union:I just want to start my letter by saying how thouroghly disgusted I am that the Warsaw Times-Union would print the picture on the front page of (the Oct. 1) paper. The picture was of the wreck that killed Zach Wade. In the picture you can clearly see Zach's foot sticking out from underneath the bottom of the car. I think that this is the last thing his family wants to see after their son's life was taken. I also feel this is a slap in the face and very disrespectful. Somebody at Times-Union owes Zach's family and friends an apology. Start showing a little more respect guys.
