Life Chain

Editor, Times Union:
Kosciusko County Right to Life would like to express appreciation to each of the 306 individuals who participated in the Life Chain on Oct. 5.

Those of us who are pro life do not enjoy opposing abortion. It is draining, time consuming and at times discouraging; it subjects us to frequent criticism. Our lives would be easier, much more pleasant, if we could pretend that babies aren't dying. But we cannot. Much as we wish it were otherwise, abortion kills children.

Isn't it time for all those who know the truth about abortion to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves? And not only to speak up, but to show a better way, the way of love. May we reach out with truth and compassion to mothers feeling the pressure to abort. And may we show a morally disintegrating society the better way of mercy and justice for innocent children.

Pierceton School

Editor, Times Union:
I am writing in regard to the Pierceton Elementary School and its staff.

I have two daughters that got the privilege of starting at Pierceton last school year. The teachers there expect the students to work at their full potential.

One of my daughters has special needs, and Pierceton Elementary has been a blessing. They were very prompt and thorough with testing, conferences, getting my daughter in the special classes with the special help she needs, and making sure that I have an active involvement in the complete process.

I cannot say enough positive about the school and its staff. The secretary/receptionist is another very positive aspect of the school. She's wonderful to the students, very helpful, patient and understanding with parents also. They all deserve a world of praise and thanks.

License Plates

Editor, Times Union:
Well, people we knew it would happen. The state is going to raise the cost of getting your plates. But wait, you say they just reduced them. Tough, we need the money for road improvements. But wait, you cry again in dismay, what about all those excess monies they claim to have! That's a good idea, you say, and I agree 100 percent, but then we're also dealing with the government, although it is only on the state level, common sense takes a back seat.

Well, here's what I think. When the plate fees were so high before the great cut they didn't seem to have the money to improve the roads, so how do they expect to do it now.

They want to increase the operating budget 13 million for the license branches. It may be me, but every time I enter a branch there are at least two clerks sitting around or standing in the doorway to the office of that elusive person we never see talking.

So if they need money why don't they get rid of the deadbeats and rude people at the branches around the state. Heck, fire Gomer; we probably could proceed with the extension of I-69 also. As you may well tell, I have just returned from the local branch.

Well anyway, my point is we better get together and contact our state reps and the governor's office and tell them no way are we going to stand the rise of our plate fees again. Just remember what they used to be, people.

Thank you.
