CVB Guide
Editor, Times-Union:I am Lynette Donley, sales director at Providence Communications & QC Printing & Imaging, a fifth-generation printer in Fort Wayne. We were contracted by the Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors Bureau to sell and print the 2005 Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors Bureau Guide. It is true that we are not in Kosciusko County and did not realize the issues surrounding the sales and printing of this guide at the time we agreed to do this work. We know that many residents in Kosciusko County shop in Fort Wayne and we thank you for your business. Many Fort Wayne residents shop in Kosciusko County and have lake homes there as well.
We are sorry for any confusion our participation has caused the residents and businesses in Kosciusko County. We want only the best for the 2005 KCVB Guide and the success of the upcoming season. We are mid-cycle in our sales efforts and want to thank those who have chosen to participate in the 2005 Guide. We will conclude our sales efforts mid-November 2004. Thank you for allowing us to serve you.

No Battleground
Editor, Times-Union:How does it feel to live in a "slave state"? I am referring to the fact that to the presidential candidates, Indiana is a "non-battleground state" because our electorial votes will go to the GOP candidate, no matter who it might be, man, woman or beast, so what's the use in any candidate stumping for votes in our great state? I continue to vote in every election, seeking the same feelings of a free man even though I know I'm a slave to the GOP when it comes to the presidential election.
I may or may not vote for George W. Bush, that is not the issue, but whether I do or not I already know that he will carry Indiana. Maybe I am the only Republican that feels this way? I think it would be nessesary for me to leave my beloved birth city and state of Warsaw, Ind., and move to one of the "battleground states" so as to get the total experience of a voter that is being courted by the presidential candidates. Maybe then I would feel truely free. I think that if we did away with the electorial vote system and went strictly to a popular vote system the people of our great nation would be honestly represented when the votes were all counted. Thank you for reading. Keep it up!

Important Issues
Editor, Times-Union:Election Day is just around the corner and there are many, very important choices for the voters in our community. In addition to the obvious political races, we will be electing representatives in several districts for the Warsaw Community Schools.
Some recent issues at WCS have raised concerns among patrons and taxpayers. This election, we would like to offer our support for a school board candidate who will provide fresh vision, responsive leadership and common sense to these issues. We encourage your support of Mr. Sterling Watkins for District 4, School Board Representative.
Sterling has many years of business experience and community involvement that he will use as a basis for making quality decisions. As a business leader and active board member of the Chamber of Commerce, he understands the budgetary process and will promote fiscal responsibility toward the ultimate goal of quality, well-rounded education for all students. As a Big Brother volunteer and long time Special Olympics basketball coach, he has demonstrated a commitment to the needs of our community.
Sterling Watkins wants to provide fresh new leadership to the school board, make good informed decisions and most importantly, he wants to be representative and accountable to the citizens he will serve.
We think he will be a responsible elected official. That is why we support his candidacy.

Middle School Volleyball
Editor, Times-Union:Last Saturday, October 2nd, both the Edgewood and Lakeview eighth-grade volleyball teams competed in the Boston Middle School tournament at LaPorte. Both teams did very well winning their respective pools and going to the semi-finals. It could have been an all Warsaw finals but unfortunately Lakeview did not win their semi-final match. They fought a hard battle but I was more impressed with what they did after the game.
After their loss Lakeview could have gotten on their bus and gone home. It was late in the afternoon and it had been a long day. I know the Edgewood team had to be at the school at 6:45 a.m. Instead of leaving they stayed and cheered on the Edgewood team. Usually these two teams are competing against each other but not on this day. Lakeview was supporting Edgewood, their future teammates once they are all at the high school together.
As a parent of an Edgewood volleyball player it had been a long day for us too. It was the fifth game of the day and we had been cheering a lot. It was great to have the added cheers from the Lakeview team. I know it made a difference and encouraged Edgewood to do their best. The result was a tournament win! Edgewood beat Chesterton in the finals. Thank you, Lakeview, for supporting the Edgewood Tigers!

Major Parties Lacking
Editor, Times-Union:I find it hard to believe that in this great nation of ours we have such a low grade of presidential candidates in the two major parties to choose from.
Personally, Kerry and his liberal buffoons scare me to death. I had planned all along to vote for Bush, but in the last two weeks, I have decided that neither candidate deserves my vote.
There is no telling what Kerry will do if he gets in office. I doubt if he knows either since he changes his stand at the drop of the hat. Due to his indecisiveness and liberal views, I'm afraid we might end up with legalizing gay marriages and abortion on demand.
Bush's stand against these sins was the primary reason I was going to vote for him, but his inability to admit his mistakes in starting the war in Iraq has changed my mind. In my opinion, if he had the integrity he should have to be leading this nation, he would be completely humiliated and heartsick at the destruction and loss of precious lives caused by his misdirection and stubborn determination to wage a war against the better judgment and repeated warnings from the U.N. and so many other nations and the outcry of the people. What made him believe he was right when so many believe this war was wrong? But rather than admitting his mistakes and pleading for the chance to make amends, he continues to make excuses for his bad judgment.
And as Gary Gerard wrote in his editorial a couple of weeks back, neither candidate is saying anything about what the plan to do about the over 7 trillion dollar national debt. But, of course, what can they say when they both know that they are just going to keep on overspending and sending the numbers higher and higher.
I thought about not voting at all this time but I really want to vote on all the local levels so I have decided my presidential vote will go to the Libertarian candidate. At least I know what they stand for and that is strict adherence to a constitutionally limited federal government and even though they don't stand a chance of winning the presidential race, every vote cast for a third party tells the two major parties there are people out here who are sick of all the big fat government corruption, lies, wasteful spending and unconstitutional programs.
I missed the Indiana governor debate so I read the transcript of the entire debate and after reading it, I have decided I will vote for the Libertarian candidate in this race also. I was especially impressed with the fact that the Republican candidate agreed with several points made by the Libertarian candidate.
This transcript is 34 pages, and if you missed the debate as I did and would like a copy of said transcript, go to www.indystar.com/articles/3/182471-6263-P.html or contact myself or Dan Stevens.

Faint Not
Editor, Times-Union:My words for today are addressed to President George W. Bush and company:
"Hang in there!" You seem to be on the right track. Our determined enemy struck us first. And he has kept coming at us with a deluge of deceptions and death, then runs away and hides.
First, you led us in our deep grief while we buried our dead and attended to our many wounded. Then you have led us in relentless worldwide pursuit of our enemies in the name of the God of truth, righteousness and freedom. (Which faith brought our fathers and mothers to this land long ago.)
It's past our understanding, but our enemy serves another god - a god of hate, deception and indiscriminate killing of any people of all ages who don't agree with their politic-religion. (This "god" must be a good teacher, because his/her followers are real good at deception, killing, running and hiding. The rascals really are hard to find!)
But, Mr President, let us cling to truth, loving care, freedom for all and LIFE! I'm 82 and still love life! "Let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not." - Galatians 6:9
