Middle School Principal Responds
Editor, Times Union:Per our conversation, I'd like to respond to the letter to the editor titled "A Few Rotten Apples" and published in the Times Union on Oct. 1, 1997. The letter, written by a Noreen Courson, stated that restroom stall doors at Lakeview have been removed due to "concealed drugs and obscenities." It further states that I told "them" (the students?) that it would remain that way due to a few students that choose to break the rules.
I do not know nor have I ever spoken to Noreen Courson. No restroom stall doors have ever been removed at Lakeview in the seven years that this has been a middle school. As no stall doors have been removed, I have never told "them" (students?) that the doors would stay off due to rule-violating students. In fact there are seven male restrooms in this building with stall doors.
I hope you understand my concern over this mis-information being published in the paper without verification of its accuracy. I realize the intent of the letter-to-the-editor page, and the issues surrounding validity of content. I am concerned, however, about unverified information that has the potential to raise the concern of hundreds of Lakeview parents, as well as the general impression of our school in the community after reading it.
I invite any parents and community members to visit our school, sit in on classes, and see first-hand our fine students and excellent staff. We strive to provide excellence in education in a safe school environment, and we teach our students the importance of personal responsibility in their actions as well as in their words. As adults we model the same behavior.
I appreciate your understanding of the importance of accurate information about our schools and our young people.
Please contact me any time you have a question or need clarification about issues concerning our school.

Recycling Thanks
Editor, Times Union:The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District would like to thank all of those who participated in the Paper Recycling Day this past Saturday at Lewis Salvage Company. We were particularly appreciative of the refreshments that were delivered to the workers from a kind gentleman as he drove through to drop off paper for recycling. We are also appreciative of the donated facilities and equipment which enables us to provide the recycling opportunity for the public.
The Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District will be providing more opportunities for the public to participate in voluntary recycling programs and encourages business, manufacturers, schools and homes to begin a recycling program if one doesn't exist. Paper is a very large part of what is taken to the local landfill each day and with a few simple steps a lot of that paper can be diverted and recycled.
Thanks again to all those who participated and we hope to see many more of you at the next Paper Recycling Day. Look for dates and times to be released in the near future.

Band Says Thanks
Editor, Times Union:The Band Directors for Warsaw Community High School and the Band Boosters Club would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks for the community support shown in helping us raise the funds necessary for the new uniforms we are wearing this fall for home ballgames and marching contest. We have received many comments on their beauty. Many fundraisers and a great deal of community support made these possible.
We'd also like to thank Warsaw Farm Center for the loan of the John Deere "Gator" that is used to pull percussion equipment on and off the field for games and contests. This is a tremendous help to us as we have to meet contest requirements for entrance and exit times.
Everly trucking has supplied us with the use of a semi truck to pull our newly-acquired semi trailer that we use to haul the equipment and instruments, and Automotive Color of Warsaw donated the paint to have the trailer painted a glossy black. Our patrons are making plans to have the bank logo and name placed on the sides of the trailer to identify us as we travel.
