BMV Complaints
Editor, Times-Union:Hello Neighbors!
On 9/27/05, at 12:20 p.m., after finally finding a parking space within my walking distance, I arrived at our Warsaw branch of the Indiana BMV to acquire a plate for a vehicle I had just purchased. I left the building with plate in hand at 1:55 p.m., and considering the standing-room-only crowd, I felt very lucky.
My advice to all those that can do business with the IN-BMV via their Web site on the Internet is - Do It! I would have done so this day, but you can't do this type of business via the Internet, to date. I thought the employees of our local branch were performing at an acceptable pace, but I must say, I just loved overhearing what several of our neighbors, mostly from the Northern part of our beloved GOP county were talking about.
Mr Editor, you are from that part of our County, I would like to hear your views on this subject, if you will please give them.
Most of them were really upset with "Our Man Mitch" for closing the Syracuse branch of the BMV, which in their words caused this gridlock-like system at our Warsaw branch. I heard one man say, "You ask us if we want to donate an extra dollar for organ transplant programs, and for political candidates to use during their running for office, so why not a dollar to start a fund to impeach "Our New Governor"? That is a bit over the top, but it was said, and many people heard it and agreed. I say it's too early to turn your personal dislike of our governor's new policies into hatred. I wouldn't much care to have to drive to Syracuse to do my BMV business, but I would, if the Warsaw branch had been closed instead, and I would do it without complaining about it. Remember, it may be autumn, but Our New Governor started weeding the garden in the early summer. You will most likely have more things in your garden changed in the future by our governor that will upset you so much more. The Syracuse BMV branch was just one weed. So save some of that hate in case you want to spread it around in the future about another pulled weed that will upset you, and is sure to come.

Parade Of Homes
Editor, Times-Union:We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that visited our 2005 Homes on Parade! We are truly proud of our developers, builders and associates and all of their talents - displayed for everyone to see.
We hold our Homes on Parade as a single site event each year. In the spring, be sure to join us for our annual Spring Home Parade, which is a scattered site parade with homes featured in different locations throughout the county. This Spring parade provides the opportunity for builders to showcase homes at varying price levels. This past spring, there were 18 different homes to visit - all provided free of charge for our guests.
Our costs for hosting a single site parade are quite significant in comparison to a scattered site parade. Each of these parades provides different benefits and addresses various needs for the builders and the community. We want to thank you, once again, for offering your support to the Builders Association of Kosciusko-Fulton County by attending the 2005 Homes on Parade at Barrington Hills. We hope to see you at the 2006 Spring Home Parade.

Vandals Lack Respect
Editor, Times-Union:Over Labor Day weekend, we had damage done to several tombstones in our cemetery.
I don't know who had such low respect for other people's property, let alone respect for their elders, but it's obvious they haven't had any manners taught at home.
Don't know who you are, but this was reported to the sheriff's department, so keep your backs covered.
I want to thank Larry, Jeff, Jordan, Shelby and Betty for setting the stones back up. Good job.

Donate Blood
Editor, Times-Union:I wish to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all of our blood donors who made a special effort to donate blood during the month of September. Through your efforts, we were able to host a total of 10 bloodmobiles, with donations totaling more than 500 units of blood throughout Kosciusko County. This was an outstanding effort and I am pleased to announce that our blood supply has increased to a 3- to 4-day supply. Many thanks to each donor and a special thank you to the students and staff at Wawasee and Tippecanoe Valley high schools, and to the Grace College students and staff who participated in our September blood drives.
During October, we will host blood drives in accordance with the following schedule: Oct. 7, Warsaw Community High School*, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Oct. 11, Center Lake Pavilion, Warsaw, 12:30 to 6:30 p.m.; Oct. 18, North Webster American Legion, 3 to 7 p.m.; Oct. 19, Depuy Corp.*, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct. 26, Lake City Bank, South Buffalo Street, Warsaw, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. * Reflects location is closed to the public.
I want to encourage our residents to consider donating blood, and if you have never participated in donating blood, consider there factors:
n You must be 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health.
n It normally takes a least one hour to donate, including the time to register, complete the interview process, and donate a unit of blood.
n Donating blood is not painful, but perhaps a bit uncomfortable the first time you donate, after that it becomes routine and satisfying.
n By calling 800-GIVE LIFE (800-448-3543), you can make an appointment and save even more time; however, "walk-ins" are always welcome at our blood drives.
Please think about these important facts also:
n In the United States, a blood transfusion is needed abut every two seconds.
n About 15 million units of whole blood are donated in the United States each year.
n Even though 50 percent of the population is eligible to donate blood, only about 5 percent of the population donates blood.
n Up to four blood products may be processed from one unit of whole blood - possibly saving four lives.
n On any given day, an average of 38,000 units of red blood cells is needed for patients in the United States.
In conclusion, thank you for your support of the American Red Cross Blood Program in Kosciusko County. Your support continues to demonstrate that "by working together, we can save a life!"
