Moral Integrity

Editor, Times-Union:
Our President has lost the moral integrity to be able to lead our nation forward into the future.

This affair with Ms. Lewinsky (as far as I'm concerned), is the straw that broke the camel's back!

He has done many things that are immoral and against God - Our creator - among these are his extreme backing of homosexuals, (Romans 1:26 & 27); abortion (especially late term abortion), which is murder of innocent babies, (Romans 1:29-32); many times lying to the American people, (Ephesians 5:6). Then diverting attention from the issue at hand in some way and raising contention of someone else (his "enemies") doing something "wrong." This has been his way of doing things ever since he has been in office and it hasn't changed!

Now, as I sit here listening to the gory details of his adultery, (Gal. 6:19-21); and, the many comments of people around the country about this, it brings fear into my heart and completely saddens me.

Had anyone else, (any CEO), behaved in this manner, what would the legal system do? How many military officers have been greatly punished for the same kind of actions; and this is their boss doing these same kinds of things! How can they be punished and not their boss. The President topped them all by lying about his actions!

It simply amazes me that there are so many persons of higher education who think that this is only about this "sexual affair." Of course, it is mainly, as this is what they have proof of. Americans, please, wake up and pay attention to what he's doing, not just when he has an affair! The many other lies he's been telling us since he's been in office.

As you can see, he's true to form in getting "his people" to point the finger of shame at Ken Starr, who is only doing his job, (and doing a good job, too) to divert the attention of the American people toward his "enemy" and away from himself. Look back in the past and see how many times he has done that!

Now, to you who think that he has helped our economy, how can that be when he approved strongly the murder of innocent babies, who would have been future taxpayers, who would have paid into social security, and been great doctors, lawyers, scientists, or whatever they might have become. When he also has been going all over the world (on taxpayers dollars), and giving away money to many countries when we have so many homeless and people who can't afford medical care for their families here in our own country. Not to mention all the losses from "natural disasters" we've had recently!

Finally, this country was founded by Christians "In God We Trust." Until we get back to our moral standards, we are going to have all kinds of this type of problems. Then, how can we expect to not have a high rate of crime, when our young do not have moral leaders to look up to?

So, you see, this is not just about Clinton's affair. It involves us all!

Christians, please, rise up and be heard!

Nancy J. Swafford, Silver Lake

Critical Of Roemer

Editor, Times-Union:
Dear Representative Roemer:

Tomorrow Bill Clinton will star in his new television series and you are still out there with your finger to the wind. I think it is very ungrateful of you not to speak out or wish him well, with this his next step forward in his legacy. Are you waiting for the cows to come home, you know what may freeze over, or the first Wednesday after the first Tuesday in November?

What made me write this was the report in today's newspaper how you once again voted to give our tax money away. You seem to have a problem, always wanting to give money to any foreign cause or any special interest group, who can provide PAC money to your campaign. How about taking care of the poor taxpayer in this district, or don't they matter? Well between you and Bubba I hope the Democrats in this district wake up and see you for what you are.

I see where you and the guy running as a fiscal conservative, what ever party that may be, shared the ride in the Labor Day Parade. That must of been one great ride, he bragging about all the taxes he cut and you sharing how you have never seen a tax you could not support.

Well wishing you no success this fall, I remain

Clinton Scandal

Editor, Times-Union:
I have to respond to the letters from Mr. Holland and Ms. Fulton in the September 22, 1998, edition of the Times-Union. To follow Mr. Holland's reasoning to its logical conclusion then we would have to empty our prisons of everyone, including rapists and murderers as there is no one fit to judge them, as we are not without sin.

I agree with Ms. Fulton that President Clinton has wasted entirely too much of our time and money on this fiasco. I think that as part of his punishment he should be required to repay the country for money spent investigating his lies, perjuries and cover-ups. As for never having had "sexual relations," I believe the semen stained dress is direct evidence to the contrary.

Finally, to those who believe that this is a private matter, let me refer you to an article in the September 15 Chicago Tribune by John Kass. In it he tells of a pizza party Clinton and Monica had on November 17, 1995. Clinton invited Monica over that evening and asked her to brink pizza. During their tryst Clinton received a call from a powerful Alabama congressman, H.L. "Sonny" Callahan. Callahan was chairman of an appropriations subcommittee. Their discussions involved the sending of troops to Bosnia. While discussing the fate of sending our sons and daughters to a very tense situation in that area, our president unzipped his pants and had Monica perform oral sex on him. As Mr. Kass wrote in his article, Clinton is without shame. And anyone who supports him is too.

Wondering About Clinton

Editor, Times-Union:
Mr. Holland:
Your implication that Bill Clinton only did what any other normal man would do if married to Hillary is absurd and insulting to me as a human and as a woman. When does others' personalities or character traits ever make sin legitimate? And do you think that because I am from the North that I would be stupid enough to dislike or disrespect Bill Clinton simply because he is from the South? Please give me some more credit than that!

You might be interested to read someone's quote in regards to another presidential scandal, where lying to the American people was a central issue, according to him. "Yes, the president should resign. He has lied to the American people, time and time again, and betrayed their trust. He is no longer an effective leader. Since he has admitted guilt, there is no reason to put the American people through an impeachment. He will serve absolutely no purpose in finishing out his term; the only possible solution is for the president to save some dignity and resign." That quote was spoken by none other than William Jefferson Clinton in 1974 regarding Watergate and Richard Nixon. It makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Cafeteria Workers

Editor, Times-Union:
I am responding publicly to the letter from Janie Smith rather than contacting her directly because we do not have a record of a parent or guardian with that name and there is no phone listing for her. I would encourage Ms. Smith or any parent/guardian with a concern about Lakeview to contact me directly. Together, we can gather information and work towards resolution of problems.

The cafeteria staff and custodians work very hard to provide hot, nutritious, balanced meals that allow students choice and safety. They serve our 528 students quickly and efficiently with friendly good humor. I would invite any concerned parent/guardian to join us for lunch to observe behaviors of both students and staff. I am confident that they will enjoy the meal and their concerns will be allayed.

Food Stamps

Editor, Times-Union:
I saw something at the new Owen's/Kroger store yesterday that really made me angry.

A young woman, in her 30s, bought some $20 worth of groceries with her "poor people coupons (welfare)," then with cash, she bought a whole carton of cigarettes.

When I went outside, I saw this same woman, smoking a cigarette and scratching a state of Indiana lottery ticket.

What would she do if she were a winner now?

This welfare is a robbery of taxes paid for by us, who are under the 25 percent low incomes.

Welfare must soon be WORKFARE.
