Debt Blame
Editor, Times-Union:I have an answer to the Democrat who recently said in an editorial letter to the Times-Union that, "the federal debt quintupled during the Reagan and Bush years." During those years we had a Democrat majority in the U.S. House. The chairman of the Ways and Means Committee was a Democrat. Every dollar spent by Congress originated in the Democratic House. What chance did Reagan or Bush have to fight those Democratic budgets? Next, the Democratic ploy about the Republicans giving the "rich" tax breaks. Twenty-five percent of the taxpayers pay 80 percent of the taxes; the richest 10 percent pay over 60 percent of the taxes. Would you be happier if they paid 100 percent of the taxes?
Finally, who would be the best candidate for president? It seems that the other day Gore was speaking to a group of Teamsters and said, "I can remember as a small child hearing the lullaby, 'Look for the Union Label.'" The tune was written in 1975 when Gore was 27 years old. Do you want another pathological prevaricator in the White House for the next four years? Tell them anything, they'll vote for you!
One more thing - Governor Bush is the only governor to succeed himself as governor since Texas entered the Union in 1845. A majority of virtually every electorate group voted for him. He'll do fine as our next president! He has managed the second largest state in the union quite well. Gore has been a lapdog to Clinton, calling him "the greatest president the United States has ever had!" Again, I think Governor Bush will make a fine president. Let Gore go back to Tennessee and his Occidental Oil millions!

Wearing Purple
Editor, Times-Union:Dear Terry and Maureen Mauzy,
After reading your memory to your Mom in the paper, I had to send this. I never knew your Mother but I am sure that I would have liked her. What a wonderful poem to choose for a loved one.
I will wear purple now and always think of Katerine Mauzy with a smile in my heart. We who dance to a different drummer and love our young and old deserve to wear purple.
THANKS for making me smile all over. And giving me something so wonderful to read.

Education Importance
Editor, Times-Union:
It is with grave concern that I contemplate the future of Indiana's children if Congressman David McIntosh is elected governor. It's bad enough that he rarely votes in Washington on behalf of his constituents. But what really scares me are his votes against the education of our children.
I've been reading up on his record since he announced he wanted to be governor, and I'm afraid that Hoosier voters don't understand the significance of his actions. He voted to cut $10 billion from federal student loan programs. He tried to bankrupt the Department of Education. He also voted against legislation that supported the Head Start Program. These are not political points, they are just facts. Voting records cannot be argued with.
Please explain to me why David McIntosh believes education is NOT important. Doesn't he have a daughter?

Boy Scouts
Editor, Times-Union:Nine United Way chapters across the country, one so far in Indiana, have cut off funds to the Boys Scouts of America due to their ban of homosexuals. Please make sure the chapter you are contributing to does not follow this insanity. As for me, I will be making my contributions to the Boy Scouts directly rather than the United Way, if they are going to operate this way.
I applaud the Boy Scouts of America for their stand and sincerely hope they continue to stand strong in their convictions.
I am thoroughly sick and tired of having this disgusting lifestyle shoved in our faces.
