Cost Of War
Editor, Times-Union:Regarding recent article on Cost of War by Abigail A. Fuller.
I yet mourn the loss of about 3,000 innocents on 9/11/01. We must never forget that assault on innocents.
The loss of our revenue on the day far exceeded the money spent in the war with Iraq. If we are going to spend $151 billion dollars in prosecuting this war, it will save 10 times that amount; because evil terrorists will continue attacking our infrastructures if we do not respond forcefully.
I would rather have George W. Bush deciding (with the Congress) how our money will be spent than some muslim extremist.
Every time there is an election the pacifist party (Democrats) charge that Republicans will:
1. Take elderly people's Social Security away.
2. Disenfranchise blacks and other minorities.
3. Quit feeding children at our schools.
4. Kick poor people out into the streets.
5. Reduce funding for education and all other sorts of nonsense.
Democrats would absolutely remove America's right to bear arms if they could. That is - until it is election time. Then they are all pro guns. They are so transparent they can only fool the willingly blind and ignorant. All foolish arguments aside, they have never seen:
A. A tax they don't like.
B. A restrictive gun law they wouldn't support.
C. A dollar spent on the defense of freedom they would whole-heartedly support.
Who am I going to vote for? Not John Kerry.

Thanks For Honor
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to thank Steve Haines and his wife Patti for my "overwhelming surprise" at the Kosciusko County Democrat Hall of Fame Dinner. And I also would like to express my gratitude to everyone in the Democrat Party for their support.
I am used to writing the news - not making it. And also used to being behind the camera - not in front of it. Which brings back memories of many years ago when I had only worked a couple of weeks at the Times-Union.
I drove my "first" new car, a Corvair, to the Times-Union parking lot, backed up, got caught on the railroad tie - and ran for help. And a few minutes later I heard the 8 a.m. train smash the back of my car. The motor dropped out. (Because it was in the back!)
Later that day, the publisher, Reub Williams, came downstairs to my desk and "gently" pounded his fist on my desk and said, "I hired you to write the news, not make it!" I can't help but wonder what he is thinking "up in heaven" about me - making the news again?
Thank you each and everyone so very, very much for the honor you bestowed on me.

Editor, Times-Union:Tensions are high between the U.S. and France. We have heard there were lucratice deals between France and Saddam. So what are we doing? Sending weapons grade plutonium to France for processing into nuclear fuel. Are we nuts or what? Can we really trust them? Will this stuff wind up in the hands of terrorists? I sure hope not, but what stops them from claiming it was stolen or just plain missing? It would seem someone is using very clouded judgment. Let's all hope I am way off base on this.

Junk Mail
Editor, Times-Union:I love it. I just love it. A way to strike back at unwanted junk mail.
After reading Kathy Simpson's letter, I started immediately making a pile of junk mail with "No Postage Necesary" envelopes. Who needs seven to eight credit card applications weekly when you already have all the credit cards you want?
I love it. I just love it. You do it too.
Maybe it will grow and become as successful as the Indiana No Call List.

People In Need
Editor, Times-Union:I have been a resident of Kosciusko County all my life. WRSW broadcasts "community first." What a joke! What is that really suppose to mean? Kosciusko County has no help for people in desperate need. The county allows landlords to shut people's water off and does nothing about it if you live outside the city limits. Then when you go to the health department or the sheriff's office, they say it's a civil matter and hire a lawyer. How can you hire a lawyer when you have no money? Every place that offers help has a waiting list. Well, sometimes there is no time for a waiting list. There are times when people are in dire need of help.

No Democracy
Editor, Times-Union:While we were unaware, the people we voted for to serve our interest and needs secretly met behind closed doors with wealthy developers and corporate bigwigs to determine our fate. To give legitimacy to these closed door meetings a judge is usually present. This is happening right now at all levels of government. While we try to wipe the sleep from our eyes, those who support these closed door meetings and secret deals claim they are interested in the community as a whole, not one or two people, or a small group.
After we've pushed the snooze button for another short nap, the electoral college begins to grow and grow in power and legitimacy, even to the point of trumping the popular vote. While we snoozed on our votes were thrown in the dumpster, shredded or driven from town to town all in an attempt to keep them from being counted.
As we begin to wake up from this nightmarish dream, we come to a full realization ... America is no longer a democracy (a government of, by and for the people). This is the kind of government Republicans have always wanted it to be, even before they (came) to power.
This is a republic!

Editor, Times-Union:On Sept. 13, my twin brother was stung by a hornet in his home and suffered a life threatening reaction. Due to the fast thinking of his wife to call the Multi-Township EMS, he was revived and given another chance at life. I would like the residents of this county to publicly know how much these people are appreciated for all that they do. If you ever have to call on one of these great people let them know how you greatly respect the work they do and give them the support they deserve. Thank you EMS, again, for all you do.

Voter Education
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to take this opportunity in this forum to plea for voters to educate themselves for the upcoming elections.
With the recent attack and smear campaign currently being displayed by our candidates, I urge all voters to look past these tactics and try to get into the real issues at hand. No matter Republican or Democrat, please go to the polls on Nov. 2 armed with the truth. Know each candidate's stand on foreign and domestic policies as well as their stance on Homeland Security. I know it is easy just to vote party line, but if the other party's candidate makes a stronger case and can provide the leadership that we need, by all means vote that way. I am a registered voter, but do not vote. Why? Because I am still young and do not fully understand governmental policy. That doesn't mean if I agree completely with a candidate that I will not vote. Yes, I am currently debating this year's election and as to whether or not I support either candidate. I will stay informed and make a decision based on fact, not propaganda, closer to Nov. 2. So please, arm yourself with the truth and vote your heart, not your party.
