Wake Up, America

Editor, Times-Union:
It is time for America to wake up. This past week I have seen an attack on the Boy Scouts similar to the attacks that the Right to Life organization gets.

We are told that we Americans need to be more tolerant, more understanding and more sympathetic. The problem with this thinking is that it is destroying our country. We are told that being unmarried and pregnant is OK by Hollywood standards. We are told that if you are rich and an athlete whatever crime you commit is not important. We are told that being a Christian is not politically correct, much less being active in politics and being Christian.

For most, as a Catholic, I find this thinking wrong. As an Eagle Scout I find this thinking an affront to everything America was when I was growing up. With these attacks, I am ashamed of our country. I do not know why we sit by and do nothing. I know what the Boy Scouts stand for and that is being a patriotic citizen of this country. The Boy Scouts have helped more boys keep a positive influence in their lives. Remember that Al Gore believes in a one- world government, and patriotic organizations do not fit into this plan.

I think that we need to really understand what and who is working behind the scenes here, and this person is the devil. Satan is alive and well in our country. We, God-fearing people, need to pray. We need to vote morally. We need to change the direction of this country. Remember, every vote counts.

If we do not, God help us, and more importantly, God help our children.

Supports Roemer

Editor, Times-Union:
I have lived and voted in the Third District for a long time. I have never had a problem getting in touch with my congressman, Tim Roemer, no matter if he is in Indiana or in Washington, D.C. Thanks to a wonderful invention called the telephone, he is never more than a call away. He is a part of the community. He's a Penn High School graduate and earned his degrees at the University of Notre Dame. There is no doubt in my mind that Tim Roemer is "all about" representing the people of this district.

I don't know WHO Chocola is or where HE is from and quite frankly, I'm so turned off by his very negative campaign that I don't think I even want to know! Just in case he didn't get my number, that's 1-800-WHA-TVER ... it's toll free because I won't be answering. I'll be on the other line with someone who cares about the issues.

Critical Of Holsinger

Editor, Times-Union:
I agree with Jeff Holsinger when he condemns Bobby Knight's behavior and attitude towards others. Ironically I see similarities in Jeff and Bobby. Mr. Holsinger seems to suffer the same "huge ego" and "I'm better than others" attitude when he attacks people who live in mobile homes and labels them as illiterate and mentally disturbed.

I live in a mobile home, I have a degree in automotive engineering, I'm a disabled veteran and yes, I support I.U. not Bobby Knight. I guess that makes me trailer park trash in Jeff's eyes. Jeff states Bobby Knight treats people like dirt and I agree, but putting labels on groups who never caused you any harm equates to the same behavior, Jeff. Bobby Knight belittles people, you belittle entire groups of people. As you yourself stated, this is juvenile behavior.

Good Job, 'One Way'

Editor, Times-Union:
There was a small "blurb" in the Sept. 14th paper about the Christian group, One Way, singing in downtown Warsaw. First of all, thank you for the "blurb." Second, I applaud these young people for their wonderful effort to express their Christianity and Christian music. They are awesome in my opinion.

I was exposed to this group by my 16 year-old son, Phil, and was thoroughly impressed, from a musician's point of view, by their talent. Their choice of music is SUPERIOR. I am the director of youth group music at my church and am proud to have this group, One Way, at our kick-off youth group service this fall.

Thank you, God, for kids like these and those just like them. Members of One Way are Jaison Baker, Brandon Fummel, David Smith and Josh Brown, all high school students, by the way.

Continued prayer and support is needed for these talented, gifted people. I encourage every youth group to invite this talent to your youth group function. There is only One Way.

Gas Prices

Editor, Times-Union:
Strong leadership; yeah, right! Mr. Bill Clinton said today that he wouldn't let the high gas prices impact the economy. We already have high gas prices and he has not stood up to these OPEC members and demanded that they either increase oil production to lower gas prices in the U.S. and around the world or face economic sanctions against their countries. Proof that Mr.Bill is not a strong leader. We are the greatest nation on earth and can't get anything done about these high gas prices. I just wonder, Mr. Bill, which OPEC member took Monica's place under your desk this time? Have a nice day.
