Fire Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
We would like to thank our neighbors in the Pines for their fast action while we were away Sunday night. We would also like to thank the Leesburg Fire Department and their volunteers for their fast response. Most of all we thank the Lord who watched over all the people who helped. Thank you again.

Art In The Park Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
Many thanks should go out to many folks who made Art in the Park again a real success. We were blessed with a beautiful day weather wise. Our set up by the park department was excellent as always. The art teachers and high school, middle school and upper elementary student helpers were just great. The Wednesday Morning Optimists were wonderful for the set up, balloons and take down... What more can I say? Our Art in the Park day was perfect. Parents should congratulate themselves in bringing their children to a creative activity.

Perhaps this is a good time to remind everyone that Art in the Park is always scheduled the first Saturday after Labor Day. We encourage more children to come each year and enjoy a creative time in the park. Thanks again to everyone.

Constitution Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
I have 1000 copies of the U.S. Constitution to give away. Free.

You can pick up your copy Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Warsaw Community Public Library. You also get an "I Signed the Constitution" button. Constitution Week kicks off Sept. 17, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution in 1787.

Just as the original signers did, participants can place their signatures on parchment scrolls. These scrolls will be returned to the National Constitution Center Museum in Philadelphia.

The NCC was established by the U.S. Congress in 1988 as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded to engage all Americans in our Constitution, its history and its relevance to our daily lives, so that "We the People" understand and exercise our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the United States.

More information including 300 lesson plans can be found at the NCC Web site: http://www.consititutioncenter.org.

Last year in Warsaw, 369 people placed their signatures next to those of the original signers. Make your mark in history a positive one.

Daniel Stevens, Warsaw

Fighting The Suspension

Editor, Times-Union:
Regarding the mother and daughter that are fighting the suspension. The mother isn't even acknowledging the fact that her daughter was participating in an illegal activity. Instead she just wants her girl in color guard.

If there is no drug or alcohol tolerance with any students why should she be an exception? Another thing? The girl was fourteen years old. Instead of being worried about color guard her mother needs to concerned about her daughter's life.

Fourteen and already caught drinking, that's not a good start in your life. The only decent solution is to not let her participate this school year but let her start with a clean slate next year. I do not expect WHS to subdue to this type of action. If one student gets away with it you might as well take the drug and alcohol rule off the list.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
