Fishing For Politicians

Editor, Times-Union:
GO FISH!!!
It seems politicians' indiscretions are coming out of the woodwork. Off the top of my head, I may have one of many ideas. All state and federal, elected and appointed officials, during sessions, could be placed under oath. Question them regarding their sex lives. Place the information in a file after notifying their local news media. Let their constituents know and check them out. This could save billions of dollars in the future. If they're found to be untruthful, we could oust (probably) most of them. This would serve other areas such as term limits. It would be a great house cleaner. If they are found guilty prior to their taking office, we could abolish any and all benefits they had earned. Just think of the pensions we could reduce or eliminate. The way to get the people interested in this, is to play IRS and pay the person a percentage of what the state or federal taxpayers save. This would produce more spendable dollars to increase the local economy. And, it would serve as an example for all the Dan "prior scumbag" Burtons. I've spent a lot of money to go fishing when I didn't catch a fish. Our government has spent over $40 million to catch one. My idea would actually save the government money ... they'd catch a lot of fish, and there's no limit on quantity or size.

Re: David Morgan Jr. letter Times-Union Sept. 11 -

Boy, did I get beat up!
Okay - Today, Friday Sept. 11, the news is full of Clinton's sexual escapades, lying to the Grand Jury, etc. - Do you still defend him David Jr.? Can't David Sr. defend himself from "ignorant Bible-thumpers" like me?

When I read the following: "our military expects its personnel to be morally superior then trains them to kill, etc." - I classify that as a "stupid comment" - Clinton did not serve in the Armed Forces, did either of the Morgans, Sr. or Jr.?

You do have a Constitutional right to say and believe what you like - many of us fought wars to make certain those rights are protected - now - don't you ever accuse me of ignorance - because, Sr. and Jr., when it comes to what freedom and democracy really mean, I know more than you ever will!

Separation of church and state? "One Nation Under God" - "In God We Trust" - Just words? Maybe to you liberal whiners, but not to those who care more for this nation than we do about phony philosophy and "poor me" ideology.

Clinton has done nothing for this nation - except try to bring us all down to his level - The congress deserves any credit for whatever has, or has not, been accomplished -

Come November, the voters are going to show their displeasure with a President who lied to the entire country - Forgive, maybe - Forget, NO!!

Gee Davy, I'm so sorry you can't have everything your way!

I've heard some sorry excuses for not voting but that about takes the cake!

While we are on this subject, has anyone thought about what all the fuss is really all about? When I was 18 I joined the Navy and because of the field I chose I had to pass a pretty thorough back-ground check by the FBI. Not only do they check to see that you have never belonged to a subversive organization but also to find if there is anything in your past that will leave you open to blackmail. And that is the primary reason that high ranking government officials must avoid this sort of behavior.

I don't know that Bill Clinton was ever coerced into doing things he shouldn't have in order to keep this quiet or even that he would have ever considered it but the way he fought makes one wonder. And that sort of question is the last one the American people should be forced to consider about their President.

National security is what makes the morality of the President the concern of The People.
