Kindred Souls
Editor, Times-Union:Shortly after the devastating tsunami struck, the region in the Pacific, an Indonesian Buddhist monk was quoted as saying that the calamity was caused by the sinfulness of the people in the stricken area.
One might reasonably assume a Buddhist monk may be a little more knowledgeable than the average bear, Buddhist bear, that is, especially since this monk lives in the Pacific Ring of Fire and presumably has at least a passing acquaintance with the dynamics of plate tectonics and the like. Accordingly, the bubonic plague, WW I influenza epidemic, SAARS and the like are similarly caused.
I suspect epidemiologists might offer a very different view. What one does know is that whenever something resonates below the neckline, whenever there is a conflict between the cerebral and the visceral, the gut trumps the brain nine times out of 10.
A local letter writer has expressed the same line of reasoning. What a pity the two can connect and commiserate with each other since they appear to be kindred souls.

Kindred Souls
Editor, Times-Union:In my short career as a football player in middle school, I had a coach that would scream PDQ at us when we messed up on blocking, etc. It meant play the game, do your part and quit blaming the guy next to you. It also meant to do it quickly!
In light of the disaster we are facing, I thought about PDQ in a different way. We need to pray and seek God to give us the strength for the task. We need to donate our time and resources to give to others. The Q is especially for those who get on the news and flap their lips about who is to blame. Quit blaming! (In other words shut your big yapper).
America, as always, is responding to the need and doing it quickly. I am amazed in recent days how many people have called saying they want to help, give a donation or time to those in need. That is the greatness of America, not pointing fingers.

Thanks For Response
Editor, Times-Union:This is in response to "Shame" submitted by Matt Perry on 9-8-05. Thank you!
Although I tend to write my letters in a little different fashion, I certainly appreciate what you had to say. The letter submitted by the two individuals that you had mentioned was not all correct and they evidently didn't do their homework completely and just said what they felt or what they wanted to say. I am gay and after doing some checking, I and others have not seen or heard of anything that was to go on in New Orleans involving homosexuals committing these acts. I guess, once again, people just want to point their fingers.
What I meant about writing my letters in a different fashion was that I try not to judge or condemn others on what they believe but I only try to give a little more insight to hopefully make people more aware of certain situations. Your letter however, said what I was feeling at the time that I read their letter. Thank you. And, just for the record, I have in the past, read and appreciate your letters, and appreciate the fact that you stay up to date on what is going on in Warsaw. Keep it up.

Rezoning Failure
Editor, Times-Union:This is a thank you to the commissioners for all of the hard work they do checking into the rezoning issues. However, I am afraid they have failed on this one!
How is it possible when our Area Plan Commission has the expertise (we hope) to judge an area as unacceptable and our commissioners pay no attention to the recommendation? What good does it do to have checks and balances? We have lived at Little Chapman 47 years and have seen the waters being polluted until the last few years when some very dedicated people have worked to turn this around. Now with decisions like our commissioners have made, it has reversed back. A subdivision of homes certainly has a lot more runoff than one church. Mr. Truex, I would like you to be out here when we have a huge rain and see the runoff that flows from the Lozier drain into the lake and the consequences.
What will you do with the runoff then that you say can be controlled? Close the barn door?
