Clinton Scandals
Editor, Times-Union:To those so-called "Soccer Moms" who have supported President Clinton two times and still stick by this President through all the many scandals on the basis that he seems to represent your felt needs, I present this question, why should we be tolerant of his intolerance?
How low should we reduce our standards of law and decency for any person in the White House?
To catalog just a few of the things many of us feel deeply about is abortion. Twice he has vetoed a bill to prevent partial birth abortion. Then we have serious crimes called, Travelgate, Filegate, Chinagate and Fundraising Scandals. In the face of all these acts of wrongdoing we are asked to be tolerant of his intolerance. Is his integrity an act? Or is it actual?
It has been reported that in an effort to remain in power that he will take the 25th Amendment. This would allow him to declare himself unable to remain in office in order for him to receive treatment for his addiction. He could appoint Al Gore as acting President, then later on Hillary0 could announce him cured, he could return to office in time to spend all the money allocated but unspent from the Federal Treasury. This would be a "Win Win" situation for the administration. Will you ask us once again to please be tolerant of his intolerance? Perhaps it would be better for this nation of ours if this President were to resign.

Defending Clinton
Editor, Times-Union:In 1976, my father chose the town of Warsaw to be the place that his son would receive a proper education, the place where his son would play in the yard after school. He felt that this town would give his son a sense of security and pride. After moving to Warsaw from New York, my father started his own business and tried to provide for his son the best way a father was able.
After reading the many articles in your paper dealing with the President of these United States, I could not believe the personal attacks that take place. This situation has become an albatross to anyone that has pride in their country, their government and their families. We as a society have taken a matter of personal, private and moral matters, and twisted, flattened and bent it, creating a soap box that anyone with a pen and lack of brains can jump on.
My father has to be the most compassionate, caring and understanding man that I have ever known. He gave me everything that he possibly could to make me the man I am today. He does not deserve the label of "stupid comments." Mr. Guard is the typical example of ignorance. His opinion is one generated due to lack of knowledge, by definition, ignorance. He does not know my father, and from his attitude toward my father, does not deserve to.
I am defending President Clinton, and I am defending my father. This country's decay of moral ethics and lack of integrity is generated in the minds of people like Mr. Guard and others that personally attack an individual based on his or her beliefs. Everyone is so quick to thump their Bible when it comes to the President. Have we all forgotten that there is a separation of church and state? Granted, this is a country of the people, by the people and for the people, but where is that Bible mentioned?
If we are not careful with how we deal with the scandals that face us now, we might just undermine everything that our founding fathers and my father have worked to give us. A place to learn, play and think as individuals, not a lynch mob. Mr. Guard, understand that we have rights to say what we think, but by your own implications try to have some respect for your neighbor, or did you forget that one. I believe it goes something like "honor thy neighbor."
I hope that we all work on our own families and let the President of the United States work on his.

Responsibility
Editor, Times-Union:As some of you people know, I have not written an article for sometime. I tell myself I am getting older and less said - less accountable for.
I am a person who believes responsibility is one of the main things in everyone's life. That may be why I disagree so much with politics!
This morning I attended church outside at the beach at Epworth Forest. I have done this all summer and my wife and I love it. This is the last we can do this until next spring. I wish it did not have to change.
As I was born in the mountains of Kentucky, I got to thinking how things were there years ago. They, like all other places, have changed, but, as the trend goes, I don't think all for the better. Maybe I live too much in the past.
While at church I was looking out across the lake and I got to thinking about my uncle who was a Southern Baptist preacher who believed in the old style, where it was a small church out in the hills and all the people had about the same outlook on things. One I used to like was seeing someone baptized in the river. Sometimes the water would be pretty cold but you were not in the water that long! If there were any livestock bathing in the river you always tried to get upstream from them. I'm sure you know why!
As most of you know, my opinion of politics is not the best. Yes, I read the paper and I still read the political articles. But I have not seen any improvement. I do believe I know why. Most when they leave office are never broke and this includes what I consider small jobs.
I am sitting on our porch (here in North Webster) and looking at two old Army trucks loaded on a semi truck. I am thinking how old and the cost then and what it would be now.
As tomorrow is Labor Day, lots of people think the fun season is over. For me it is over when it is too cold to sit on the porch.
I sometimes like to think up sayings of my own. As you get older maybe some of you do this.
As life goes on down the road, there will be days that are quite a load. You will have to handle them the best you can. After all, this is a problem for every man!
You should always remember - sometimes your opinion is not one of the best and I know this. Most of my thoughts about certain politicians I do believe are true and it is a sad situation. Correct me if you think different.
At this time we all know winter is soon to appear. I predict more cold weather and more snow to shovel and less time to sit on the porch!
Maybe if I had an "Oval Office" I could find more exciting things to do! I better quit for now. Hope I did not waste too much of your time.
Till next time, if there is one!
