Defends Beer & Jessops
Editor, Times-Union:I want to first off say that I am proud of Pierceton, Pierceton has always been "my town," I have lived here all my life and like most small towns, you know just about everyone in them, and everyone it seems is either family or friends, and that is only one of the many things that I really like about living in Pierceton, I could go on and on about all I like.
I for one agree that the Pierceton Days this year was well attended and seemed very well organized and I thank all those involved for all their hard work, I know as being a past parade chairman that it takes a lot of work from everyone to make something like this a success and I definitely believe that it was a success. So I cheer all of you, keep up the good work and make next year and years ahead even bigger and better.
But I have to speak out about something I found very disturbing and I feel unjustly said and commented on in Wednesday's edition of the Times-Union on page 2 in the "Pierceton Council Compliments of the Festival Organizers" article. I feel that the comment that was made about Beer and Jessop's not being asked to come back next year was awful and was almost bordering on slander and libel. I think that if the Pierceton Days organizers have a bone to pick with Beer and Jessop's they should do that in a private meeting with them or in a letter to them personally, I find that reading these comments about them very cold and cruel, no matter what the issue involved was. I am also very surprised that the Times-Union would go ahead and even print this comment from the committee organizers in this newspaper. Beer and Jessop's family has been a very reputable family in Kosciusko County for many generations, and they have worked very hard for many years to have lighthearted comments and attacks on probably no other matter than simple human misunderstandings, and I just feel that whatever the issues were, they did not have to be exposed or judged as disrespectful in the reading eye of everyone. So please, organizers of Pierceton Days and Times-Union, make Pierceton Days a nice place to meet old friends and make new ones, not judge and mistreat them. Beer and Jessop's, if you are not invited back next year, maybe you'll do better in another town that will show proper respect to you. My sincere appologies to you, your family and business.

Editor, Times-Union:Due to the death of my husband Todd Miller, my daughters and I have been touched by the kindness of so many. I'd like to take a moment to share my heartfelt gratitude for all the wonderful people who are helping us get through this sudden tragedy.
I'd first like to start by thanking all of the generous people who donated to the girls' education fund. The thoughtfulness and generosity you've all shown has been wonderfully overwhelming and we appreciate it so much.
I'd also like to thank all my dear neighbors who continue to check in on us, watch out for us, bring us food and goodies, flowers, movies and popcorn, offers to help with the girls, take out my trash, help with the yard and so much more. We appreciate all of you so very much and feel blessed to be surrounded by so many loving and caring people.
To my family of friends that I have met through the years at the American Table and the Boathouse, I want to send a special thank-you. From the beginning you've all been there, and continue to be there for us. We've had love and kindness expressed from fellow co-workers, owners and customers with whom I consider all to be dear friends. Thanks for the visits, calls, meals, donations, flowers, gifts and above all, your love and friendship.
To our families, we love all of you so very much and want to thank you for everything you've done for us. You've all experienced a horrible loss as well, yet you've all been there for us every step of this tragic journey and we cherish each and every one of you. We know we can count on all of you for a lifetime of support. My girls and I enjoy the time each of you spends with us so much, as it helps to fill the void left by this tragedy. An extra special thank you to Tony, Todd's brother. I don't know what we'd do without you.
Thanks to all my close friends who stayed with me 24 hours a day for the first month. Each of you let me talk endlessly of Todd, keeping you up late nights, away from your families, crying on your shoulders and leaning on each of you to take care of us when I just couldn't. I love all of you so very much.
Thanks to everyone who continues to call me regularly, send cards and keep us in your thoughts and prayers daily. It all helps so much, so please keep the calls, cards and prayers coming, some days it's just the thing I need to lift my spirits and help me get through another day.
Two months have passed, and we've come a long way since we heard the horrible news on May 26; however, my heart continues to, and probably always will, ache for my very best friend, husband and daddy of my three little girls. So when you see us out, know that we're hanging in there the best we can and trying to live our lives the way Todd would want us to, with a smile, even though a piece of us the made our lives completely happy, laughing and joking endlessly, giving us all so much love, has left us, leaving us solely with memories of a wonderful husband and daddy, to remain forever in our hearts.
Thanks again for all the love and continued support.

REAL Services
Editor, Times-Union:Any time someone prepares a delicious, nutritious meal for me, I will be there to eat and enjoy. Such is provided every day at noon in nine communities in our county.
The REAL Services Nutrition Program delivers hot meals five days a week to Mentone, Milford, North Webster, Pierceton, Silver Lake, Syracuse, Warsaw and Winona Lake from its kitchens in South Bend.
Despite rumors, this is not a welfare program. I repeat -ÊNOT a welfare program. The suggested donation is $2.50, but if you can't pay, you are still welcome. Any amount is accepted and whatever you pay is kept confidential. The money patrons give goes toward more meals. The month's menus are published in the free publication Senior Life, and other newspapers publish each day's menu.
It is difficult to understand why a person of 60 years of age or over does not take advantage of this service. It is necessary to make a reservation for the day on which you wish to eat. The phone number is printed at the beginning of each month's menus. Call 574-269-1173 for further information.
