Summer Reading
Editor, Times-Union:The Warsaw Community Public Library wishes to thank everyone who participated in the Summer Reading Program, "Wild About Reading." The statistics show that our community is really "wild" when it comes to reading! Registrations broke last year's record by 56, with 1,071 children, 171 teens and 241 adults participating. Reading was reported 2,099 times, and the total number of books reported read was 55,289. One hundred eighteen volunteers donated 935-1/4 hours to help run the SRP.
The Thursday programs were "wild" with monkeys, leopards, 7-foot puppets, unbelievable scientific demonstrations plus a visit by a creature from "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. Local storytellers presented terrific story hours at Central Park, and many others helped in various programs. Businesses donated refreshments plus certificates, merchandise, and thousands of coupons to be used as prizes for reading. The Times-Union once again judged the Teen Creative Short Story Contest and printed the winning story in the paper.
We appreciate our community which sees the value of reading and gets involved in the summer reading program each year. Thank you all!

Pierceton Success
Editor, Times-Union:We wish to express our appreciation to the clubs, churches, committees and individuals who made "Pierceton Days" such a success. All the activities and the parade were so well organized. We want to give a special thanks for being selected as grand marshals and being so royally treated. Thanks to the committee in charge, to our drivers and all involved and special "perks."
It was a day we will always remember.

Christian Rock
Editor, Times-Union:Why SHOULD the devil have all the good music! I exhort the people at large to wake up and understand how our awesome and mighty God can use the powerful, outrageous medium of Christian rock music to blast into your heart! Why should the parents of today literally facilitate their teens' spiritual destruction by bringing the flaming immorality of MTV and other such programming into their very homes? Why should the teens of today let their own souls board a fast train to hell by embracing the explicit lyrics and deadly values of today's secular music? I don't need to tell you what I'm talking about - if you can search your heart and say it's not hurting you, then you're seriously deceived!
And hey, local church leaders, especially youth pastors - you need to understand how vitally important it is to get this message to your youth. All music has a message, and if you boil it right down, the message is either good or bad - no in between. So when you see there's a Christian concert or festival happening anywhere within driving distance, you should be planning to take a busload of kids and go there. Be proactive in searching for events to attend! I have seen these events make such a difference in the lives of those who attended, and, you know, the band members actually take the time to talk to the kids and be positive role model for them.
I love the Lord and am connected enough to the Christian rock music industry to know without a doubt that what I say is true. I can attest to the influence Christian rock music has had in my own life and in the lives of people I know. I have seen God change people's lives through this music. And whatever type of sound you like - it's there in Christian music, so NO EXCUSES! Time is short. Why are you waiting! If you are interested in learning more, but don't know where to start, just e-mail me at [email protected]

Leesburg Teacher
Editor, Times-Union:I thought perhaps, by using this means of communication, I would reach the most people.
I've taught at Leesburg School for 20 years. For those who haven't had a teacher's classroom experience, for many of us, our school and our classroom become an extension of "home." There honestly hasn't been an August when I haven't felt excited about starting a new school year. I have never, for even a day, taken for granted the fact that I love my job.
This school year, I'll be changing my "home" to Harrison Elementary. While leaving Leesburg School is going to be be difficult, change is always exciting, good for the soul, even though a little scary!
To all the parents, staff and community members of Leesburg, I have loved my time with you. To my Leesburg students, former and present, you've all been so easy to love. Each of you, in your own wonderful, unique ways, you have made me a better person. Thank you!
