Paving Problems
Editor, Times-Union:I read with great interest the letter published on 7/30 from a Mr. Jim R. Smith. His letter expressed his chagrin that the same day his complaint letter regarding the paving problems in his neighborhood was published, the paving was repaired by Rod Ladson and the Kosciusko County Highway Department.
I wish that I could complain of the same, unfortunately this is the second letter to the editor I have been compelled to write regarding the atrocious piece of asphalt that the highway dept. calls a paved road rounding the bend of CR 200N by Biomet and JD Byrider.
My first letter was published months ago, and shortly thereafter I was hopeful that my letter had garnered some results. Some small repairs were made, and pink arrow and circle marks were spray painted on the road - indicating that some repair work may begin. I was hopeful at that point. ...
To date, I along with countless others are still continuing to navigate into the opposite lane of traffic to avoid the enormous pot holes that have reappeared since the minor repairs were made months ago. Apparently the fact that this is dangerous - let alone illegal - matters not. Perhaps it is only speculation on my part, but if Mr. Ladson and other employees of the Kosciusko County Highway Dept. were forced to drive this portion of road daily - sustaining certain damage to their vehicles as I have - would the road be repaired any more quickly?
My apologies to Mr. Ladson and the Highway Dept. if you are not responsible. If I can be directed to the correct authorities - I await your reply.

Child Support
Editor, Times-Union:I am writing in response to Charlotte Allen's letter dated 8-9-01 in regard to child support. At one time I have said the very same words about the child support office that she is writing about. In 1994 I also went to the child support office and talked to the then director, Mr. Kolbe, asking about my case. He told me that there were over 2,000 cases to be worked and that I was not worth the 30-cent stamp to keep me updated on my case. Unfortunately I had to receive AFDC for three months before Mr. Kolbe saw that I was worth that 30-cent stamp because now I was costing the county $300 per month. In less than two months my ex-husband and I had a court date.
As clients of the support division we must keep the office updated to any changes or leads we may have to find the deadbeats that take off on their responsibilities. Compared to other counties who have 200 cases per caseworker, the enforcement office in Kosciusko County is working around 500 cases per caseworker. It is going to take time and our help to help the caseworkers. It took two or three years for Kelly and Beth to finally arrest my ex-husband (with my help) before I was able to collect support from him. (He was self- employed and could not be touched until left his business). Do not think that any of the caseworkers do not care or ignore our pleas for justice. Kelly and Beth were able to collect support from my oldest son's father by having to work through three states, he has not paid support for 18 years until last month.
On Monday July 31, 2001, there was a city council meeting in regard to adding more people to the enforcement office. I went to show my support for the women that work the office. When I got there I was told that I would not be needed because the current director was not asking for additional help for the enforcement office, but for his office. Kelly, Beth and the rest of the girls that work the enforcement office are not elected to that position, they are hired like you and I. The current director who is elected to the enforcement office needs to be asked leave or step up for the people he works for ... us!

'Corpus Christi'
Editor, Times-Union:Don Kaiser, as many other Christians have, has a feeling of shock and revulsion about the play "Corpus Christi" that IP-Fort Wayne is giving. But why be repulsed by something that a college for higher learning does when such institutions are not dedicated to making human beings Christ-like as Scripture says churches are? (Ephesians 4:11-14) Scripture clearly states that God will judge "worldly" things such as colleges.
"What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. Expel the wicked man from among you." (I Corinthians 5:12-13) Isn't it strange how Christians like to judge what God will judge and neglect to judge what they should judge?
Scripture also reveals that when a Christian sins, he or she makes Christ a part of the sin. (I Cor. 6:15) It can easily be seen where Christians should be doing their judging. There are many inside the churches who are making Christ a part of the same evils that the individuals of IPFW are being accused of doing. What denomination doesn't have its share of Christian gays and any other type of the sexually immoral? Many even have gay clergy! Where is the shock and revulsion (and judging) about this by the "smut thumpers?"
Mr. Kaiser warns those involved in the IPFW presentation that "the brick wall will fall on them." But before it falls on them, Scripture clearly tells us where "the brick wall falls" first! IPFW is not "God's household." Christians are the household of "players" where the "brick wall falls," who should "look out" long before the players of IPFW need to "look out." (I Peter 4:17) (What kind of consciences do Christians have who do the same things as those of IPFW?)
Thinking about being Christ-like: shouldn't it be a goal of all "believers" to be as Christ-like as possible? I would like to have a few churches help me to become "more like Christ"! Scripture tells us that the Christ went to the temple where he read some Scripture and then talked about what he read. I would like to have the pleasure of having a few invitations from some area "temples" that are dedicated in making as many human beings as Christ-like as possible, to read some Scriptures and talk about them, as Christ did.
Those "believers" didn't care for what the Christ said. (They even took up stones to try to kill him. I wouldn't want an invitation from a temple that has stones.) So, for me to become even more Christ-like, it wouldn't matter if I could be understood (if given the chance). Scripture clearly says that the unrighteous can't be understood and don't even want to understand. (Romans 3:10-11) But I would love to have the chance to be more Christ-like.
