Newspapers In Education

Editor, Times-Union:
In about one week, summer vacation will expire and those who are seismically sensitive will perceive subtle shifts in the local terrain as thousands of local youth flood back to school. Many students will have successfully eluded academics for the past several months, prompting teachers to prime pumps and recalibrate brains. Fortunately, some children will enter school having been primed and dusted. Warsaw Community Schools has just concluded another successful elementary Jump-Start summer school session. While concepts involving math, reading, writing and science are standard fare, children in fifth and sixth grades were treated to a unique "text" delivering academic foundations with a local, state, national and international twist.

Thanks to Becky Walton and the Circulation Department of the Times-Union, over 80 students were privileged to use current issues of the Times-Union daily in the classroom. With a wealth of diverting content, consistent features and locally relevant numeral content (and of course "Garfield"), the Times-Union brought life, sense and meaning to necessary concepts and standards to be addressed. Students benefited from the generosity of this paper.

Thank you, Times-Union, for your continued support of our young people.
