Thanks For 4-H Experience

Editor, Times-Union:
We have just had an experience in our lives that will be a wonderful memory. Our son won Grand Champion barrow at the Kosciusko County Fair. We are overwhelmed and very humbled at the outpouring of love and support from the community. We are very proud to be a part of the 4-H program in our county. We don't know if people realize the opportunity there is to meet and make new friends and the lasting friendships that develop from their experiences at the county fair.

We have been involved on the swine committee the past several years and have enjoyed working with the kids in the swine barn. It has been a very rewarding experience getting to know the young people and their parents and we would just like to thank them for their support over the years.

We would like to thank the Kosciusko County 4-H Community Fair Inc., the Extension office personnel and all the 4-H volunteers who put in so much time and effort to make our fair a success. We would like to thank the businesses and the people who support the 4-H Auction year after year. Without you the kids wouldn't benefit financially. If you would like to financially support the 4-H program in our county there are several options available to you: the annual 4-H animal auction, the Kosciusko County 4-H sponsorship program with four levels of giving and the Kosciusko County 4-H Endowment Fund. The 4-H Council Board of Directors has accepted phase three of the Kosciusko Foundation's Endowment Challenge. In phase three of the Endowment Challenge, we are able to receive 50 cents for each dollar that is contributed to the Endowment Fund by Aug. 1. Supporting the Endowment Fund would help us increase this permanent income source for the future of our 4-H program. If you have any questions, please call the Extension Office at 372-2340.

So if you're down on the youth of today, you need to check out the county fair and see the projects these kids have exhibited or get involved and become a 4-H volunteer.

Thanks again to all the buyers who supported our son at the auction.

Larry and Kay Kammerer, 4-H parents and volunteers, Leesburg

Don't Close Warsaw Drive-In

Editor, Times-Union:
Please keep the Warsaw Drive-In open. I'm sorry this is late getting in. I waited to see if anyone else was going to write, but no one did.

I hope that people send letters to the people who own the drive-in theater. It has been here for a long time. I can't believe they actually want to shut it down. I hope they can leave it open for a long time.

I feel sorry for the people who live nearby. They don't want to see it go either.

You are probably saying it is too late, but it is not too late. Things can be saved. I pray that kids now and in the future can be able to go to a drive-in and see and do what is in a drive-in theater. You can go to the food stands with your parents and watch a movie, and some places have swings.

All movie theaters are all right, but a drive-in has a different feel to it. Also, the people who watch TVs and VCRs could give them a rest. Or turn them on and record while you are gone.

Please leave it open. I hope this is not the last year for the drive-in. It will be a sad time and day if they close it down. I pray and hope it stays open.

CCAC Concessions

Editor, Times-Union:
I am having the enjoyable parent's experience watching my daughter play coach-pitch softball at the CCAC this summer. Her brother and I, her dad and her grandparents have all been in attendance (even through the heat and humidity of the last few weeks).

However, our experiences with the concession stand have not been good. We have had to stand in long lines, missing big gaps of the game. Or, after having waited and watched the person directly in front of us being served, we were told "We are closed." This happened after the beginning of an 8 p.m. game.

When a person walks up to the playing facilities, signs are posted requesting that we do not bring in our own food or drink: "Please support the CCAC concessions." This is quite a difficult task.

For example: Thursday, July 22, my daughter had an 8 p.m. game. Our coach had a short batting practice prior to the game. At 8:30 p.m., I went to buy my daughter another bottle of water and could not. Why? "We are closed."

At this time, the facility had three games in progress, it was still 82 degrees outside, the humidity was quite high and the drinking fountain at our dugout did not even work. I cannot support their concessions when I do not have access to them. The need to bring my drinks with me is quite a valid one.

My son has played T-ball in the Leesburg Recreational Summer Leagues for the last two years. These facilities may not offer what the CCAC facilities do, but I did have access to their concessions for the duration of league play; a very important factor during summertime athletics. I may have to consider enrolling my daughter in Leesburg's Leagues for this and various other reasons.
