More On Softball Game
Editor, Times-Union:Well I guess I have to spell this out. But first get your facts straight.
I admit I didn't know about the 10 player rule, but I also don't know how many girls are going to show up until game time. Not a good time to look for a pitcher. The girl who was going to try and pitch for me who is also my catcher was not there. I had two players who said I could call up a minor league pitcher. I knew what the game would be without a pitcher, so did you. Not a game but a landslide victory for you. Do you think my girls had fun losing that bad? They did not. I never said you personally asked us to give up, the umpire did.
Inning 2, Heather hurt her shoulder trying to pitch and had to go home, so now I guess I am legal, only have nine girls. But now the minor league pitcher has gone home. Yes, I would have called the game. I knew, as did you, there would be no chance to win. I was not as brave as my players. I also said I wish I had the same rule book as the ump, not you. If we have the same rulebook then we still have an unfinished game. That is a "rule" also, but it was OK to break that one.
You also won a game last week because the opposing team had a couple girls late for start time. A "rule" last game I coached that the opposing team didn't have enough players we played anyway then when they took the field my last two batters played the field with them. One of your league officers was there. You are the one without confidence not me. Yes, the president and board members said it was a rule but do they think it was fair? Was it fair to make us quit when we didn't want to? Ms. Wyatt, you are a board member. Do you really think that "here's a rule, yahoo we win?" I'm also tired of people telling me it's about time somebody said something.
Well now I guess I can spell it out for you.

Also a little note for Erin. No I do not feel hollow, because at the start of the season I asked all my girls where they want to play and they take turns playing the positions they want. They also help with the batting lineup and help coach. Be thankful you can voice your opinion because when my injured pitcher tried to she was told "we are not talking to you" by the opposing coaches.

Organizing A Class Reunion
Editor, Times-Union:The organizers of the 15-year reunion for the Whitko High School Class of 1983 would like to take this chance to speak to our classmates who live in the area. It has come to our attention that some members of the class are reluctant to participate based on the $20/person fee requested from attendees. So far, out of a class of 130, we have received 30-40 responses. A total of 60 people (including spouses/dates) will be in attendance. In organizing the reunion, we did our best to find a balance between keeping per person costs as low as possible, while providing a meal and entertainment for the evening that would make the event enjoyable for everyone. We are not doing this to make money. Everyone on the committee is donating their time and services. For those who feel that $20/person is too much, we remind them that it is the same amount as we asked for the 10-year reunion. (Nearly one-half of the class attended!) We also ask you to keep in mind that there are considerable expenses that must be covered in addition to the cost of catering. We must rent the reception hall, purchase stationery and postage, hire the entertainment and hire a bartender and retain liability insurance for the evening. We are planning to give away several '80s-related door prizes throughout the evening. If there is any money left over, it will be held in a savings account in the name of the WHS Class of '83 for the next reunion. That money will be made easily and completely available to whoever may wish to participate in the planning of the next reunion. However, at this point, it appears that the committee may be required to make up for a loss due to the LOW fee being assessed and the low turnout. We ask that our fellow classmates reconsider and decide to join us Aug. 22 for an evening of reminiscing, getting reacquainted and renewing old friendships. The opportunity may prove to be priceless. For more information contact Angie Huston at 834-7585 or Melissa Smith at 723-5711.
