Tootsie Roll Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:Warsaw Knights of Columbus Council 4511 again has to thank the people of Warsaw and Kosciusko County for their generosity during our annual Tootsie Roll campaign for the developmentally disabled. Members of our council, their families, Cardinal Center staff and clients and volunteers from Kosciusko County Special Olympics went to the streets in May and collected an astounding $18,000.
We are certain that no other Indiana council can come close to this number. Indeed, no council ever comes close to our collections, because we hold our campaign in a town where the response gets better year after year. Young and old, male and female, driving Chevys and Lincolns, the people that we live and work among make us proud and leave us humbled by their willingness to support our handicapped brothers and sisters. God bless you.

Tax Dollars At Work
Editor, Times-Union:It is nice to know that there are situations where you can see your tax dollars at work! A few weeks ago, I was driving my heavily loaded (with concrete statuary) pickup truck along I-465 around Indianapolis during the evening rush hour. Fortunately, I was in the right-hand lane.
Abruptly the ride got quite rough and I realized I had a problem. I was able to pull on to the shoulder and discovered I had blown a tire. Due to my heavy load there was no way I could have changed the tire. While wondering what to do, a large white van with lights flashing, pulled on to the shoulder in front of me and started to back up toward me. What was this all about? As it got closer, I noticed the following words on the back of the van: "Hoosier Helpers Indiana Dept. of Transportation."
The gentleman who got out first inquired if I was all right. This was the most important thing! He then guided me to a safer position on the shoulder and assisted in contacting a towing firm. Before he left he said he would check on my situation later to be sure I was on my way. Apparently they cruise all of the interstates in Indiana to help out whenever it is necessary, at no charge.
To me, it was so nice to know that this help is available and I'm writing this letter to let other people be aware of this great group.

Bingo
Editor, Times-Union:As I was reading the letters to the editor I found it quite interesting toÊnote the one about bingo at the Elks on Sunday morning. I like to play bingo and cards also, but on Sunday morning that time should be given to God. If the person likes to be in a no-smoking area and get a good seat, church is the place to be. I saw the ad the Elks have in the paper that bingo starts at noon, but doors open at 10 a.m. Maybe they should wait until 12 to open doors and start at 1 p.m. Thank you, just a suggestion.
