Death Penalty And Abortion
Editor, Times-Union:There have been two subjects during the presidential debates that have gotten a lot of media attention.
One subject is capital punishment. There are a lot of protests outside prisons, saying that capital punishment is wrong. It troubles me to see fellow Christians and pastors saying that it is wrong to take a convicted killer's life - that it is God's responsibility to judge and punish the prisoner, and that God is the God of love and forgiveness.
I would ask these Christians to pick up the Bible and read it, instead of being solely dependent on the guidance of today's liberal pastors and churches. The Bible is very clear on God's law. The Bible does not support their opinions. Yes, God is a God of love, but also of stern punishment.
And as far as judgment goes, the Bible is filled with passages on how we are to judge. But we always hear people quoting Matthew 7:1 - Judge not, that ye be not judged.
But if you read verse 5 it tells you to not judge like a hypocrite, that you can't judge someone else for something you also do. We are all sinners, but as Christians we have a responsibility to confront the wicked, teaching them the way of the Lord. The Lord tells you and I and everyone else that it is our responsibility, and that we will be accountable for the lack thereof. Do you? I don't, but I will.
The second subject is abortion. I'm going to keep this short and to the point, because I believe it's common sense. If you have an abortion for reasons other than saving your life then you are a murderer. People cry and complain when we execute a convicted killer, but we keep our mouth shut when they rip a baby's body apart and throw it in the trash. Millions of babies are murdered because a woman decides it will hurt her career, or some other selfish reason. And if you are a pro-choice Christian, you should realize those words don't go together.
Finally to the people who stand in front of Planned Parenthood, please contact me so I can join you, and make a stand in protest of baby killing.

Editor, Times-Union:This Friday, we're playing one of our few open-to-the-public gigs in Warsaw. We play from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the beautiful Center Lake Park. We hope to have the kind of turnout we had last year. We had one of the best-attended concerts of the season last year for the park department. Thanks to those of you who stopped by last year.
Thanks also to those of you who came by the fair last Friday to listen. We very much appreciate the support and we're always excited to see fans at several shows during the year. Despite a rash of unexpected technical glitches with the sound system (not the Woodies' sound system, by the way) we managed to have the biggest crowd we've ever had at the Fair.
We'll be using all our own equipment Friday night at the Park. Thanks for readin'. Laaaaater,

Animal Welfare League
Editor, Times-Union:Why is it when someone does something they believe in, they are put down ... I happen to know the person who reported the burning of the dogs at the Animal Welfare League personally. I have seen him go from a person who thrived on getting up and getting to the shelter to take care of the animals, to somone who has a look of sadness and grief in their heart and eyes. Up until the day of the report, this person was trusted in everyway, with everything that happened or went on at the shelter.
Now he is only trusted enough to clean the cages. This is the price he pays, for doing what he thought was best, protecting the animals. Day by day, he forces himself back into the setting of being isolated from the friends that he made, the lack of trust of his co-employees, just to take care of the animals. If any of you know this person, you know of his dedication he has had over the years to his job. I only hope that through time, the pain will leave him, and that the shelter continues to do its best to protect all animals, and find them good homes.
