Thanks To Officers

Editor, Times-Union:
I would like to take the opportunity to publicly thank two police officers that have recently left the Pierceton Police Department. I have had the privilege to work with Officer Jeff Larson and Officer Trevor Griffith at many emergency scenes through the local fire department. Both officers will be missed by the community, the school and the emergency services. Hopefully their replacements will continue keeping the town a safe place to live.

I personally would like to thank Officer Griffith for opening my eyes and making me a more defensive driver.

Thanks and good luck.

Disagrees With Marcus

Editor, Times-Union:
Since it is too hot to work outside I have decided to write one of the two dozen letters to you that I keep saying I will do but never get around to doing. The topic that prompts this one is your frequent column "Eye on the Pie" by Dr. Mort Marcus from IU. If anyone reads this column you will notice a couple of common themes - he enjoys making fun of those of us in the General Assembly and about every week he bemoans the fact that people of Indiana pay so little in taxes to support the government. Last week he called us a bunch of "peacocks" because we all left the special session and came home to crow about how we had "saved homeowners from onerous taxes. Why don't they tell us the truth about what we are asked to sacrifice for lower taxes." Funny, Mort, but I don't recall coming home and doing that. Your continual call for higher taxes for government is getting old. I can understand why you would like to do that, especially with your $109,200 state paid salary at IU, and also from the fact that you are from New York, where they love to be taxed, but it is not playing well here in the heartland. If the views of Mr. Marcus are shared by the Times-Union, may I suggest moving the column to the editorial page or at least put a disclaimer following his articles.

Finally, on another topic, I would hope the Times-Union will endeavor to proofread your headlines a little better. Spell check is great but it doesn't tell if the correct word is being used. As a former teacher, I still cringe when I see glaring mistakes in headlines. On a positive note, I do read your entire paper and look forward to it every evening.

A Life Saved

Editor, Times-Union:
The family of Lindsey Bruner would like to deeply express their heartfelt thank-you to all those involved in the saving of her life, thoughts in prayer, those that visited at the hospital and at home, all of our First Christian Church family and the endless list of those involved. Each of you know what you've done for us and the other children and families involved, and words could never be enough. Thank you to Parkview Hospital and the Samaritian helicopter crew for your excellent care and service. We would like to publicly express our deepest sympathy to Art, Sharon, their children and extended family in the terrible loss of Catlyn - we loved her and love you very much. Psalms 57: verse 7, 9-11. All our love,

Kyle, Lalanya, Lindsey and Nicholas Bruner

Homemakers Say Thanks

The Extension Homemaker's County Officers would like to thank everyone visiting the Home and Family Arts Exhibits.

We would like to thank the ladies for giving their time with showing demonstrations of the crafts they like to do. Peggy from Lowery's showing machine quilting, Esther Shull heading the Crochet Circle, Peggy Prazognot with her counted cross stitching and Lisa Truman showing her spinning and weaving. The kitchen area had the aroma of bread baking after Linda Hathaway mixed up two batches of hot rolls that we even got to sample. Edna Bryant had her knitting circle also clicking those needles together two days.

We hope to do demonstrations again next year. Yes, plans are in the making already for next year.

Support your Extension Homemakers and 4-H programs.

Have a great summer.
