Ten Commandments Rally
Editor, Times-Union:In Auburn on June 28, a "Save the Ten Commandments Rally" was held. It was a spine-tingling atmosphere. Guest speakers gave electrifying speeches. The crowd responded with great enthusiasm.
Indiana State Rep. Dennis Kruse followed the introduction, expressing his full support.
The Rev. Rob Schneck, founder of the Ten Commandments Project, spoke on "Preserving our Moral Foundation." We need to prevent the consequences that could happen and have, like removing prayer from our schools, legalized abortion. We need to set a new precedent.
Dr. Allen Keyes, founder of the Declaration, his topic, "The American Family," a great subject. Especially since our values have taken a slide to the very left, not what our forefathers had established for us to live by. In this area, we need the support of our families and of course, our schools. They are falling short on teaching values and respect to our children. This is making it difficult for some families who are trying to teach their children at home to do right. However, this does not mean that all has fallen apart, many good things are happening also. Keyes stated, "Forgetting the principles is intentional, not accidental."
Our principles are to serve God, without faith there is no Freedom, we should be willing to turn our moral standards back like our founding forefathers gave to us. We are people of decline. Hope is just a prayer away.
Judge Moore, Alabama Circuit Court Judge, referred to the occasion also to "Save America Rally," very appropriate this Fourth of July celebration. It is not all about fireworks, trust and believe. You cannot support anything when you destroy the document. Moore stressed our public acknowledgment of God throughout American history.
We need to remind our government officials that we are all held accountable to a higher authority than ourselves.
The Ten Commandments have been the unshakable pillars of civilization for more than 5,000 years. Why should we change it when it has brought us through many trying times and we have survived them all.
Words of George Washington: "Religion and morality are the only firm support of our government, and we must protect those two great supports, or else (the government) will fall." Such wonderful thoughts he shared with us; let's savor it.
The music was supplied by Phyllis Crothers with our national anthem and recording artist Honeytree. Both were inspiring.
The purpose of the rally being to bring the Word of God back into our national culture and to remind those who form public policy and legislation that there is a higher moral standard by which all things must be measured.
Judge Moore needs our support to save our rights to protect our freedom.

Control Of Rivers
Editor, Times-Union:Has anyone bothered to tell you about the meetings taking place right now in many Indiana river communities? These meetings are being held to promote the President's Heritage Rivers Initiative. As usual, the federal government is offering local and state officials money in exchange for federal presence in all matters involving rivers, their tributaries and their watersheds. The agencies involved are many, all with regulations and powers of enforcement that will encroach upon our Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights. Twenty miles on both sides of the river will be subject to scrutiny. HUD will be in the communities, not by your invitation, but because it is one of those agencies. The EPA will be testing soil and doing "environmental monitoring." Perhaps to find an endangered bug or a chemical it disapproves, thereby denying land use to the farmer or landowner. Fish and Wildlife, Washington style, will be managing our rivers. Don't we already have such an agency in our state? Also, why would the Department of Defense be needed to "help" the river?
Supposedly, these agencies would supply "staff and resources" for "help"; if they have more staff and resources than they need, perhaps they are overfunded; perhaps the agency itself ought to be eliminated.
Will federal control limit or eliminate altogether access to rivers? Many questions need to be answered before allowing this initiative to invade state and local authority. This sounds like more and bigger government, not less; more and bigger taxes, not fewer; more intrusion into what should be the business of our state and local elected officials.
