Animal Welfare

Editor, Times-Union:
Our humane society or whatever name they want the name to be... Is it humane to put to sleep unwanted animals and to keep alive our human murderers in their cells for 20-30 years?

I know animal care is costly. We have a 12-pound house dog and we feed our squirrels and birds. We provide clean water daily for the birdbath.

We have our elderly in our retirement homes, mostly without proper love and attention. Why cannot we provide these people visitation on a weekly visit with a pet cat or dog?

Better yet, but not at all a substitute, why not have a Give-Away program for those animals who are soon to be put to death once a month?

Roemer Donations

Editor, Times-Union:
Tim Roemer says he'll keep accepting money from special interest groups. Not only that, he'll accept lots of it. He's already accepted almost a million and a half dollars. How can his focus be in representing us when he has a responsibility to all the special interest groups who keep sending him to Washington?

And how can he claim to be taking money from hardworking Americans when he doesn't support paycheck protection legislation, which would allow members of unions to decide whether or not they want their union dues going to support candidates?

Tim Roemer, you can't be everything to everybody all the time. Only a politician thinks that he can pull that trick off.
