Religious Laws

Editor, Times-Union:
Can we as religious people, whatever your religion is, who believe in God and God's laws, accept these laws that the nine Supreme Court justices have handed down in the last 50 years when they have blasphemed God's name and God's holy laws?

1. Prayer in schools was abolished or banned by the Supreme Court justices. NOTE: Article1 under the amendments to the Constitution; Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press.

When the Supreme Court banned prayer from our schools, they denied these people the freedom of speech. The freedom of speech must never be denied anyone, be it in school or any place.

Have the Supreme Court justices made themselves dictators over us, telling us what we can and cannot say when it comes to prayer in schools? Also, there is the freedom of religion in this country as well as freedom of speech.

What is freedom? Exemption or liberation from the control of some other person or some arbitrary power. It was the U.S. Supreme Court justices that used that arbitrary power to stop the freedom of prayer in the schools in the U.S. Can the Supreme Court justices prohibit the freedom of speech? Whether that speech is prayer in schools or anyplace else, wherever one speaks, one should have that freedom.

The Supreme Court of today should overturn this law, as the Supreme Court has gone against the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. They have violated the First Amendment on freedom of speech in the case of prayer in school.

2. Abortion; death of the innocence. NOTE: Genesis 1:27: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them."

No church should ever even for the sake of incest approve of an abortion, for a human baby is made in the image of God. For the Supreme Court to pass this law should be looked upon as murder. For whether the baby is just conceived or fully developed, it is murder to abort this child, for it is made in the image of God. This law should be overturned. Also, stem cell of an embryo is the earliest stage of development of a human and should not be used for experimental purposes. For destroying embryos is, and should be considered, murder. It is made in the image of God.

3. Sodomy. Sodomy degrades our lifestyle in the United States. This law should be overturned. It seems that the Supreme Court has made laws that go against God's holy ways and God's holy laws.

For it is written in the Bible in Genesis 19:24: "Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven." Have the Supreme Court justices put God's judgment upon America and its people? Is there time to reverse these laws? Perhaps if Christians and concerned people of the United States write to the Supreme Court, the president and the Congress, these laws could be reversed.

If we do nothing, is that right when we state we are followers of God? Is it right for the Supreme Court justices to pass laws that are against God's holy laws?

If I did not write this I feel like I would be guilty of not standing up for God and God's holy laws. It is time for the religious people to take a stand for God. Can we as Christians pass this off without doing something to stop the corruption that the Supreme Court has brought upon this country?

God bless America if you can!

Doing Nothing

Editor, Times-Union:
What a bore and a waste of time to just sit around and do nothing! And so many individuals, (especially we elderly) are guilty of that very trait - the act of doing nothing. Besides, sitting around and idling your time away is the greatest thing there is to create boredom and depression. If you become bored and depressed, get up and get at it! (Of course, I am excluding the disabled.) For there is no better remedy to help you work your way out of the doldrums than to engage in occupational therapy! For instance: I am a retired 83-year-old who, for 50 years, cleaned houses, office buildings and a church. Now, whenever I become bored or despondent and don't care whether school keeps or not, I say to myself: "Move your lazy backside and get busy!" Today, there are times when my apartment needs a good going over, only I am just not always in the mood to clean it. Then, a harsh, commanding voice from within will prod me on with the demand: "Come on! Get up and grab that dust cloth and dust the furniture!" I answer the voice with great indignation: "But I don't want to dust the furniture! Right now, I don't feel like dusting the furniture or doing anything else!" Then, the voice from within shouts harshly, "I said get at it and dust that furniture!" So, gritting my teeth with reluctance, I jump up, get the dust cloth and start dusting the furniture. The first dozen or so swipes over the furniture are put forth with a great deal of restraint and unwillingness; then, I dust a little more, then a little more, until, the first thing I know, I've got the whole room dusted - and cleaned! Gazing at the room, I whoop with joy, "I did it! I've cleaned the room! I didn't want to do it! I didn't think I could do it, but in spite of my tendency to lean toward a lazy, sluggish, down-in-the-mouth attitude, I have goaded myself into doing what I definitely did not want to do; therefore, I truly feel that I have accomplished what I thought to be an impossible task, which leads me to believe that I possess enough strong will and self-determination to want to go on until I get the entire apartment cleaned!"

Yes, anyone, but anyone, can do whatever he sets out to do if he will just work up enough resolve to try. And just remember, the important thing about working you way out of boredom and despondency is forcing yourself to take that first step! For committing that first step is 99 percent of the job done. After that, you will gain momentum in possessing enough faith and confidence in yourself to feel that you are on top of the world and are about to accomplish anything and everything that you set out to do!

Editor, Times-Union:
Kudos to our local REMC workers who worked so efficiently at Wooster Road and CR 250E to remove a fallen tree, which left the area without power after our July 4th "natural fireworks."

They worked continuously through very adverse conditions until our electricity was restored. Thank you, men. We certainly appreciate your efforts.
