School Proposals

Editor, Times-Union:
In light of recent controversy over the decisions by the Warsaw Community School Board, here are a few ideas for reforming education at the local level.

1. The current school building plan approved by the school board on June 16 should be canceled. It adds more needless debt during a state budget/spending crisis. The property tax situation still needs to be resolved first; and this current plan downsizes small towns.

2. Consolidate all five school funds: the general, capital projects, transportation, debt services and preschool into a unified general fund for easier management by public officials and better scrutiny by the general public.

3. Sixth-graders should be moved into the middle schools.

4. Eliminate the entire athletic program, district-wide, from the school budget instead of slashing academics and laying off teachers, which defeats the purpose of public schools' main mission: to educate the mind.

5. Use the money that would have gone toward the athletic program for a Warsaw Community Schools Scholarship Fund to be given to graduating seniors that are going to college or vocational schools. This fund would be based on grade point average and other factors - the higher the GPA.., the more you get.

6. The school districts in Kosciusko County, along with local businesses, IPFW, Ivy Tech, ITT and area citizens should pool their resources in building a local community college.

7. The city of Warsaw and Wayne Township should be their own school district, while the southern part of Kosciusko County should be reorganized into a separate school district.

8. The school year should be started after Labor Day and end before Memorial Day and should only be extended into summer because of cancellations and snow and fog delays.

Plus, eventually freedom of choice is going to have to be introduced into the education system, which means the near-monopoly government has on education will have to be ended, with compulsory government schools being replaced by local townships' public/community schools, religious schools, both not-for-profit and for-profit schools, groups of parental cooperatives and homeschooling. Basically whatever form of voluntary education parents, students and teachers feel will best meet their particular needs and wants.

Greatly Missed

Editor, Times-Union:
Mary E. Cundiff, program manager for the Beaman Home, will be greatly missed, by her brother, the staff and board of directors of the Beaman Home, and the many clients and friends whose lives she touched. Mary was a dedicated, compassionate and caring member of the staff at the Beaman Home for over 11 years. She was a very special person who reached out to all she met, but especially those with broken lives and broken homes.

Her death during a car accident on Sunday June 22 in Wisconsin was a terrible shock, and still does not seem possible. She has a well-trained and caring staff that will carry on to serve the victims of domestic violence. However, the staff and clients to come will miss that special spark and smile that she provided day in, and day out, during all of her time at the Beaman Home.

Mary was a dedicated Christian who is home with the Lord. We ask the Lord to bless those left behind, and strengthen us to continue to serve others.

Any friends who would like to honor Mary may give memorials in her name to the Beaman Home, P.O. Box 12, Warsaw, IN 46581-0012.

'Terrorist Hunter'

Editor, Times-Union:
"Terrorist Hunter," written anonymously, is the most disturbing book I have ever read. It is written by a Jewish lady born in Iraq, who had to seek refuge in Israel after a tragedy occurred to her father under the Saddam regime.

She and her family were not satisfied in Israel and eventually arrived in the U.S. Looking through the ads one morning, she saw a notice that an institute was looking for someone interested in doing research on the Middle East for which she felt well qualified.

She was immediately hired and began to do research which was in the public domain. She read Moslem journals and newspapers. Her efforts were extremely successful, surprising her superiors. The author attended Islamic conferences here in America, disguised as a Moslem with a tape recorder strapped to her body.

Over the years she gathered intelligence that astounded the FBI. This organization could not understand how she had been able to secure such information which they were unable to do.

This book is extremely important for Americans to read because her research demonstrates, to a large extent, what is going on in the war on terrorism in America, including Indiana. The research reported in "Terrorist Hunter" explains why there has been such an intelligence failure prior to Sept. 11, 2001; and all of her information was documented in the public domain. The book is exhaustively researched and extremely well-written.

The Commission appointed to handle the investigation of why there were intelligence failures before Sept. 11 could save a lot of time and money, if the persons on that Commission would start with her book.

There will soon be a copy of "Terrorist Hunter" in the Warsaw Community Public Library, or you can order a copy through Bibles and Books at a discount.

Angels On Sheridan Street

Editor, Times-Union:
This is to inform the city of Warsaw that there are several angels living on Sheridan Street. They are, in order, daughter (Kathy), son-in-law (Carl) and granddaughter (Kim) Love.

I have been down and unable to do the usual things for some time. After a six-hour surgery, I needed help. Between my daughter and granddaughter, they covered this need. They still check on me several times each day.

My son-in-law ran errands for me and did some yard work that needed done very badly. This was all with a smile and done well.

They all have jobs, so they had to work with each other. I am very lucky to have each and every one of them.

My church brought in food and really helped.

Thank you to all that helped out in any way. That includes my son, Bill, and his family from Bremen.

Intent Of Legislators

Editor, Times-Union:
Do you know that the Indiana State Health Department can "determine the intent of the legislators" per Michael Hoover of the Indiana Health Department, not what is written in the state statutes.

Our state legislators have allowed this to happen!

By allowing Administrative Law Systems, legislators have given the right to departments like the Health Department to sue an individual in their court, pick what judge they want, provide a place to have the hearing and pay the judge to rule on their lawsuit.

At first when an IHD official bragged about "never having lost a case" we did not understand what he meant. Now that we know more of the facts - we can see why!

A citizen can be in compliance with both local and state statutes, according to the written law, and five years later someone in the IHD can exert what he thinks was the "intent of the legislators." Now the citizen is wrong and is being sued.

Wake up citizens of Indiana - you could be next. If anyone had said this would happen to us - we would not have believed it. But we are living this railroaded nightmare!

Why does everyone laugh when the question is asked, "Where is the justice?" Webster defines justice: a standard of action on the part of public officials in accordance with the entire body of law. IHD is setting themselves up as the entire body of law!

It's time we as citizens get this stopped! Call your congressman. Question them as to why they have allowed this dictatorship to be put into place in this state. Help get this stopped - before it's you and not just the ones they have victimized so far!

Project Of Liberty

Editor, Times-Union;
I'm writing because I would like to make your readers aware of a project of liberty, it is called the Free State Project. This group has been brought about due to the frustration many people feel in their efforts to pursue life, liberty and happiness, and the fact that our government is interfering in our everyday lives and freedoms.

The members of FPS have come to realize that the only way such freedom can be accomplished is by joining together with people who are of the same mind and peacefully moving to a state, to be determined at a later date. Once we have moved to the state, we will start legally reducing the intrusions on our liberty. Our goal is 20,000 people and we have more and more people joining daily. This is not just a local project, it is worldwide. While I myself am a Libertarian, the project is not associated with the Libertarian party, although they have some beliefs that are similar. If you feel like this is something, even if you are not yet ready to move from your state, yet you believe in the principles this country was founded on, I would encourage you to check out the FPS Web site, it is: www.freestateproject.org
