Get Tough On Crime
Editor, Times-Union:In the FBI annual crime reports, they define violent crime as murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults.
Violent criminals are only serving one-third of their sentences in many cases. On average: 7.7 years for murder; 4.6 years for rape; 3.3 years for robbery; and 1.9 years for aggravated assault.
Bill Clinton and Janet Reno should spend more time on getting tough on crime and less time trying to chip away at law abiding citizens' right to keep and bear arms.
The University of Chicago concluded a study "Allowing Law Abiding Citizens to Carry Concealed Weapons Deters Violent Crime." All the laws in the world will not work unless they are enforced.
But it's easier for Clinton to blame guns rather than holding people responsible for their behavior as he is very well aware of.
If Clinton would spend more time on getting serious about crime and less time on "Zipper Patrol," the whole country would be better off.
What's next on the Clinton-Reno agenda? Going to outlaw matches because there's arson?

Editor, Times-Union:Well thank you Mr. Jones! That was nice, but don't stop now. You've got your feet wet so you might get out here in the deep water with us. Lord knows we need all the freedom fighters we can get.
While we are on this, did everyone hear what our illustrious President had to say after his gun bill went down in flames in the House Friday? I don't know his exact words but it was on the order of "Another win for the NRA, another loss for the American people."
Just who in the world does that moron think makes up the NRA. I'm not real happy with them from time to time, but I am the NRA. Me and some 3 million other American citizens. As a matter of fact many of us probably have more right to citizenship than he does. Many are on active duty, many more are veterans. Many are police and many more are retired police. None of us will probably ever be President of the United States but we've had our tails on the line and that's a whole lot more than that draft dodger can say.
