Whitko Alumni Concert
Editor, Times-Union:Whitko Marching Pride director Jason Bennett, the Whitko Marching Pride and the Whitko Band Boosters need help with an opus. Webster defines opus as "a work, a composition." What work is this group creating? They are creating Whitko's first Marching Pride and alumni concert.
Any WHS alumni from 1972-2002 are welcome to join the 2002-2003 Marching Pride in concert to be called "The Four Score Minus Ten Concert." The concert will be held before January 2003 at Whitko High School. The date of the concert will be determined by the organizing committee and the participants.
Was "Mr. Holland's Opus" a seven-hankie movie for you? Do you want one more chance to prove to a WHS band director that you can hit a high C? Is your band jacket or old band uniform just begging to be taken to the dry cleaners one more time? Have you run out of places to display your ISSMA medals and trophies? Do your parents need still more proof that the cost of the instrument was worth it? Plan to attend the public meeting held in the WHS Band Room Tuesday at 7 p.m. If you cannot attend the meeting but would like more information about the concert, call Patti Holler, 260-723-6102, or Deb Michel, 260-344-1121, or e-mail: [email protected]

Silver Lake Days
Editor, Times-Union:On behalf of the entire Silver Lake Days Committee, I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped with the annual Silver Lake Days Festival. Thanks goes to so many people from the judges of our annual parade to the area radio stations and newspapers for their fine coverage, we could not have done it without you. Thanks to all the local clubs for their assistance, the area law enforcement agencies, fire and EMS departments ... the list goes on and on. Special thanks to the employees of the town of Silver Lake for their assistance. One special group we rely on each year is those area merchants who make monetary donations for the cause. The festival would not be possible without their continued financial support. Last, to the festival committee itself a big "thank you" ... you are the ones who indeed make it happen!

Golf Congratulations
Editor, Times-Union:We should be very proud of the Warsaw Community High School golf team that just finished competing in the state tournament. This team finished 10th in the state this year and fourth in the state last year. Hats off to the five seniors who have finished their outstanding high school golf careers. The team of Aaron Turner, Adam Johnson, Matt Osbeck, David Slater and Greg Clay will be remembered for many years to come for their accomplishments over the past four years. I also would like to congratulate Bob Turner, who is stepping down after 14 years as the boys' and girls' high school golf coach. Bob has had several outstanding teams during his tenure.
I would also like to congratulate the Wawasee boys' team who finished fourth in the state this year and has a strong team returning next year.

Sword Of Damocles
Editor, Times-Union:While I must admit that I don't always agree with Mr. Gerard's views, I always admire the way he expresses them. I like his use of short, punchy sentences that get to the heart of the matter and leave the reader with no doubt about where he stands on an issue. I do, however, agree wholeheartedly with his most recent column about the Spiderman movie, and the parallels that a couple of national columnists drew to it. To paraphase an old election slogan, "It's a movie, stupid." If all Americans went through life with the sword of Damocles hanging over our heads, this wouldn't be the great country it is. I guess Gary and I agree on more things than I thought.
