Oppressed Non-Christian

Editor, Times-Union:
This letter is in reference to the editorial written by Tim Ellis. The editorial titled "School" greatly angered me. Mr. Ellis must be under the impression that Christianity will make all our problems go away, well, I'm sorry to say this, but he is greatly wrong. Ever since Christianity was formed, by man, its followers have done nothing but try to push it on all others. People are regularly killed in the name of Christianity, that is wrong. And, for everyone to know, Christianity is not shunned, teachers push their religion, students have prayer groups, and those that don't, they are shunned. Every day, I am shunned because I do not follow the flock. I am not the only one, many others think the same way. In our society, it is the pagans, not the Christians, who are oppressed. For those of you who do not know what a pagan is, by definition, a pagan is one who does not believe in or follow the Christian god. After reading this article, I am proud to say that I am not Christian, and if I was, I would be extremely ashamed. I am not attacking Christianity, what a person believes in is their choice, and I have no right to tell them what to believe. I have friends who are Christian, and friends that aren't. Also, I fall into the social class of the "freaks," what I dress like is in no way a reflection of who I am. I also studied Wicca, and it is one of the most peaceful religions of all, in fact, Satanism is more peaceful than Christianity. I also have a higher moral status than many Christians, morals are not taught by the Bible, they have been around since the dawn of time, which was before the Bible. Spend one day in the Warsaw schools and you will realize that the only religion that is unoppressed is Christianity. Thank you for your time in reading this.

Meijer

Editor, Times-Union:
What are the best uses for the land across from the KCH already zoned C-3 (Commercial)? This area is located next to US 30 so it is prone to "intense" development and Kosciusko County is the second fastest growing community in Indiana. I found a tattoo parlor/body piercing business could be located there along with a bank, bakery, dairy store, garden shop, delicatessen, paint store, produce market, supermarket, gasoline station, hardware store and drug store. Now are all these small businesses going to come up with the $750,000 to renovate the Parker Street intersection? I find the tattoo parlor/body piercing business more "intense" than the Meijer family store. Do people realize that Meijer family store encompasses all above except they are not into the tattoo business?

Competition spurs lower prices and better service for area residents and keeps gouging under control like the "intense" increases of local gasoline prices. Local supermarkets being 24 hours with one having a gas station owned by the corporation and residential next to it with no "intense" problems of lighting, drainage, traffic or noise. Local dollars are not always staying local. Many local small businesses pay franchise fees. By bringing in the caliber of Meijer, it will attract new businesses and tax dollars. Some cities around Warsaw would love to have the "intense" traffic problems talked about and a Meijer family store offering to build there. If you want real "intense" traffic problems, please go to Chicago or Atlanta during rush hour. I challenge all future Warsaw Meijer shoppers that live in Kosciusko, Marshall, Whitley or Wabash counties to stand up and speak and to mark your calendars on Monday, June 19, 2000, at 7 p.m. at the old courthouse - downtown Warsaw. Come early for best seats!

Color Guard

Editor, Times-Union:
In all my years in the U.S. Marine Corps., and all the subsequent years of observing and participating in many varied Color Guards, I must state I have never, ever seen a "Color Guard" such as that depicted in the photo, front page Times-Union, Tuesday, May 30, 2000!

A "Color Guard" is to guard and protect the "Colors," i.e.: National Emblem/Flag of the United States. Normally the colors will be accompanied, to the colors left, by a military, veteran's or service organization's banner or by a State flag. The Right Guard will carry his or her rifle at Right Shoulder, and the Left Guard will carry his or her rifle at Left Shoulder.

The Color Guard depicted carried rifles upside down, muzzle forward, and the commander carried his side-arm upside down, grips forward, muzzle to the rear!

Two separate "Colors" were being carried side-by-side?! The detachment dress was not in form, (different colored trousers) and one member, the Left Guard, was wearing suspenders!

I have no idea who thought this debacle up, but I state here and now - you were wrong! The appearance of this Color Guard is one of "surrender!" The colors cannot be guarded, nor protected, with arms carried in such a manner, even symbolically.

Since the photo was prominently displayed by the Times-UnionÊ-ÊI venture to say many more veterans beside this retired First Sergeant of Marines, will voice their opinions regarding this "Color Guard."

Women And Guns

Editor, Times-Union:
Not surprisingly the Mother's Day March has stirred up quite a lot of controversy, which is great, but I've noticed something I don't care for. It appears to be a boy versus girl thing. All the letters supporting the march have been by women and all those opposed have been men.

That's not good. I know very well that there are a lot of women in this area that hunt and enjoy the shooting sports. I also know that many keep and even carry handguns for personal protection. I really wish we could hear from some of them to balance this out a little bit.

I know women don't like to sound militant or to appear to be unfeeling concerning the safety of children, but simply standing up for a Constitutional right does not make you either.

Come on, ladies. We need every voice right now. Oh Deanna, where did you go?
