Working For Jesus
Editor, Times-Union:Dr. Sarah Jane Dubbs has given public praise (in the May 24 Times-Union) for the way that some Christian youth acted toward my son and me at the pro-life concert in Warsaw's Center Lake Park. I, too, would like to give public "praise" for those youth who "confronted us for their Lord." Not once, but twice, one of them ran his bike into my leg! Once one took hold of my shirt and pulled on it. Once one of the youth who were "working for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom" blocked the sidewalk with his bike. One even threatened to hit my son on his head with a Bible! (How much "power" is there in the Holy Bible?) They sure didn't "just sit and do or say nothing about us." I am so proud of those Christian youth! They showed us what they were really made of.
I must also comment on the doctor's observations. The concert was not on Saturday, it was on Sunday. The doctor said the youth were "calm and quiet" as they confronted us. (Has anyone ever been calmly hit on the head with a Holy Bible? Has anyone ever been calmly hit on the back of the leg by a bike?) The doctor said that when the youth walked away, we left and did not return. What the doctor didn't see was that we walked away from them as a policeman was telling them to leave us alone. (Who knows what those "workers for Christ" might have done if that policeman wouldn't have been there?) The doctor also said that those workers were youth. The leader of those "crusaders" was far past being a youth. (But can't Christian adults also be "working for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom," so calmly and quietly?)
The doctor said those youth were "working for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom." Can someone tell me where the Bible says that Christian youth, riding their bikes into people, is kingdom work (that is good)? Can someone tell me where the Bible tells youth to hit people on the head with Bibles? The doctor told those youth to keep up the good work they did on us! (Does the world need such good works? What would Jesus have done? As he was riding his bike, would he have used a Bible to hit someone on the head to try to knock some sense into the head?) The doctor also says she is "in Christ's eternal love." Where does the Bible say that the Christ would love those who are so proud of, and praise, youth who do things as those youth did?
Just who might the "Lord" be of youth who do such "kingdom work" so "calmly and quietly?" Or, could it be that this is what Jesus Christ really wants from his youth? Is this what good Christian kingdom work is all about? Will someone set me straight about the real meaning of "working for Jesus Christ and his kingdom" (so calmly and quietly)?

March Of Dimes
Editor, Times-Union:This letter is an effort to thank all of those who participated in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica on May 6 to help support our mission of preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Thank you all for your continued dedication to the March of Dimes. Through the efforts of many Kosciusko County businesses and organizations, it is estimated that we will raise over $46,000 in Kosciusko County!
First of all, thank you to the committee that began meeting last year to organize and plan our walk.
Thank you to all the team captains and walkers who spent countless hours raising money for healthier babies.
A very special thank you to our Walk sponsors.
Thank you to the businesses and schools for donations that made walk day possible and all the local businesses that donated walker prizes.
Special thanks to KEMRAD and officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department for providing security on Walk Day. Thank you, Councilman Bill Rhodes, for giving the proclamation in the opening ceremonies, Susan Derr for being the emcee and singing our national anthem, the photographer of all the Walk teams, the deejay, the National Guard for setting up and tearing down the route and all the hard-working volunteers who helped out on Walk day. Thank you to the hosts of the Kickoff, Bank Day and the Victory Celebration.
Finally, if you didn't have the opportunity to participate in WalkAmerica this year, please mark the first weekend in May on your calendar next year and take the time to find out about March of Dimes WalkAmerica.

Energy Problem
Editor, Times-Union:Recent gasoline prices should serve as a wake-up call to all of us. However, the current energy "crisis" affects us in many more ways than at the pump. We think a rolling blackout or an industry layoff is not a serious problem - until it happens to us.
The good news is that the energy problem can be corrected without total dependence on foreign crude oil. That's because in addition to considerable reserves of oil and coal, we also have the American farmer who is very capable of producing an energy source - biodiesel and ethanol from soybeans and corn. Because they are environmentally friendly and renewable, biofuels are a most desirable source of energy. Yet, biofuels alone cannot meet our ever-growing energy needs. We need an energy strategy that addresses both our short- and long-term needs, one that makes efficient use of all our available energy sources including coal, natural gas, nuclear energy and renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel.
Congress is beginning to work on President Bush's energy proposals. The legislators need to hear from you on the importance of a balanced energy policy that encompasses all fuels, including those made from corn and soybeans. Call or write your congressional representative. You can make a difference.

Police State
Editor, Times-Union:Do we have a small police state in our community? You be the judge.
This morning as I was going to the restaurant to get a cup of coffee, I heard someone calling my name, only to discover it was Officer Griffith who was telling me to get out of the street and come to him on the curb. In doing so, he proceeded to harass me about my two trucks that I have parked on my property, not on the street, they are licensed and are not junk. He had told me before that if I moved them at least 4-5 feet once a week there would be no problem, but my one truck has a flat tire that I haven't been able to get anyone at this time to fix. He said that didn't matter to him and that I should get it fixed and move it temporarily. I asked him why he picked me and not the other trucks and buses and junk cars all over town that were parked illegally - he said the town board told him to get on me and I should take it up with the town board. At that point, I got very angry and very loud, he then told me to shut up or he would arrest me. (By the way, these two trucks are loaded with tools that I use in my business.) I turned from him and went into the restaurant to get my coffee. When I finished my coffee and returned to my truck to leave, there was a Police Violation on my windshield wiper. The violation was for illegal parking and double parking.
The illegal parking was as follows: I parked behind a truck that was parked about 2 feet over the parking space line, which caused me to park over the next parking space line. The double parking amounted to me being parked (the back wheels) 13 inches away from the curb, I could have parked 20 inches from the curb and still been inside the parking marker. All this time, he is parked in an alley with the police car blocking the parking spaces for the parked cars to get out and all this time, he did not have the police car lights on.
I saw him parked near the curb a short way away. I stopped and asked him why he gave me a ticket and all he said was that I was illegally parked and the double parking was that I was parked 15 inches away from the curb and if I didn't like it, I could take it up with the town board. He again told me to shut up or he would arrest me on the spot.
Is it any wonder that our police are being shot because of all the hatred that is being built because of the way that most cops treat the public? You be the judge.
