Trash In The Water

Editor, Times-Union:
It's 7:30 a.m., Monday, and I imagine last night's lake partiers are sleeping.

We've finished our footing runs for the morning, and cleaned up more than 20 items of debris from the lake.

I assure you, the first time one of us catches your beer cans on our feet at 40 mph, I will be on mission to get you caught.

Please, just take your trash home!

Interesting Reading

Editor, Times-Union:
Recently a reader complained the president was waging a war at the expense of veterans, who were being denied health care, etc.

I challenged DGL for any proof he could provide substantiating his accusations.

He could not and did not - now he wants to know why "we can't impeach a president for putting our people and country in harm's way?" He also asks "if we can impeach a president for his morals, not that he did anything against our country," etc.

Well, duh! Clinton had no morals! That's why he was impeached! The U.S.A. was mocked, scorned and laughed at by the majority of nations because of WJC!

Our president, George W. Bush, has been and is doing only what was authorized by Congress and has overwhelming been approved by the citizens of this nation!

DGL - please keep on writing about those situations of which you know very little, or absolutely nothing! Makes interesting reading!

School Building

Editor, Times-Union:
It's been fascinating to read the Warsaw School Board's recommendations on how we might reduce costs in funding our elementary schools. Superintendent Dr. Dave McGuire has proposed to close three small elementary schools and build two new schools, with one of the proposed schools being less than two miles from the new Harrison School.

Buried deep in the 5/20/03 front page Times-Union article, school board member Ron Yeiter is quoted as saying, "I'm emphasizing that we use what we have." Hats off to you, Mr. Yeiter. Thank you for stating the obvious and I'm sure the majority of Warsaw residents agree with your common-sense approach to this situation.

Red Light Problem

Editor, Times-Union:
Why is it another person had to get killed before we do anything about the truckers running the red lights on U.S. 30? I saw more police writing tickets over the weekend to truckers than I have in the past six months. I cannot understand why the police are not able to stop them from running the lights. This doesn't happen anywhere else that I drive. Now, not only do you see truckers running the red lights, cars are also doing it. If we would have a major crackdown for the next few months and then randomly place police on 30, the truckers would think of this area as a "speed trap."

Right now, all they know is this part of our county is a good place to make time. How about making trucks go 20 miles below the speed limit and stay in the right-hand lane between the first and last stoplights on U.S. 30 in Warsaw? If we don't do something major soon, we might as well put up billboards before you get into Warsaw saying that Warsaw lets you get away with running red lights. Mr. Chief of Police, what are you and your department going to do? I think the people of this county would like some answers and a legitimate plan put in place.
