Thanks To Moose Lodge

Editor, Times-Union:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local Moose Lodge Post 1423 for all the support that was given to me during my kids' talks and for my Washington trip. I had a wonderful time and met many new friends from all over the world while learning more about drug awareness.

Also, a very special thank-you to Glen Robinson for all his support and encouragement and to Merla Hawkins for all her time and devotion in helping me with my kids' talks.

I look forward to participating in your program next year.

Kari Foster Warsaw

Silver Lake Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:

We are fortunate to have so many generous people and businesses in Silver Lake and the surrounding communities. The Silver Lake Elementary School Carnival was a huge success because of generous donations made by local people and businesses.

With the help of many volunteers, the carnival brought the community together for a night of fun to help raise money for the children at Silver Lake Elementary through the Parent Teacher Communications Council.

Our thanks go out to all of our contributors. Thanks for being so generous with your donations and supporting our school.

Rotary Women

Editor, Times-Union:

A while back there was an article on the front page of the Times-Union about the Warsaw Rotary Club welcoming its first ever female members. As I understand it, this was a court-ordered mandate to previously all-male service clubs across the country.

I wonder ] does this represent a reduction in discrimination or an erosion of the freedom of a group of Americans to gather together with whomever they wish?

DARE Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:

I would like to thank the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club and DARE officer Bret Richardson for honoring me this past week at their recognition breakfast. Officer Richardson has had a positive influence on me.

Thank you for breakfast, my shirt and the opportunity to eat with the Optimist Club members.

Limit Free Speech

Editor, Times-Union:

I was appalled, very disturbed and angry concerning the pictures and coverage of the Ku Klux Klan in your paper on May 16 and 17. Just the sight or mention of KKK makes me sick.

Perhaps you are right saying nothing can be done about it. It's a matter of free speech. I say free speech has a limit, just as anything else has, and if the right people get involved something can be done about it.

These people are as racist as you can get. They have burned the American flag out in the street for all to see. They have chanted and said out loud for all to hear, every vile, four-letter word in the book concerning our African-Americans. They want slavery returned. What would Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. think about this? This is no different than the Nazis persecuting the Jews, except no one does anything about it.

During the march through Syracuse the people came out and jeered while the police stood by and could do nothing. How the hell do you think they felt?

I guess, for the time being, the best thing would have been for the people not to show up and the media say nothing. Just ignore them. Instead, with all the hoopla we played right into their hands and they march along laughing. Be sure, with a reception like this, they will be back. Who knows, they may be some of your neighbors.

If there is some sort of amendment needed to somewhat control free speech, let's get with it. If not the county, then the city. Make it so undesirables can be escorted out of town.

It seems the people in Warsaw don't much care what happens. Are they afraid to make their feelings known, or to have their name given in a letter to the editor? Is their attitude, just let these kooks do as they please?

Certainly the American Legion, VFW and other clubs do not condone it. I would love to see some other comments in the paper including our city officials and county politicians.
