Gun Rights
Editor, Times-Union:In response to Ms. Stapleton's letter on Friday, May 16...
Ms. Stapleton, you can't possibly be so naive as to think that more "gun control" laws are the answer. Do you think that a lawless criminal is going to purchase a gun at a licensed gun dealer? Do you think that a criminal is going to buy a registered gun for his crime?
You stated that the march was to highlight the need for "a better way of checking out who is buying guns." Ms. Stapleton, there is, as you know, already an instant background check of anyone who attempts to purchase a firearm, except that criminals do not buy their guns from licensed gun dealers!
You know, I am having difficulty responding to your statements. Don't you get it? A million more gun laws are not going to make one bit of difference to a criminal who wants a gun!
You also made the statement that no one at the march said anything about "taking away the right to own guns." Evidently you are not aware of the close relationship of Donna Dees Thomases to the Clintons. Did you know that Ms. Thomases is an in-law to the Clintons? Why, you may ask, is this significant?
We have been led to believe that Ms. Thomases just dreamed this march thing up one morning on the train to work. I do not believe this, given her relationship to the Clintons. Ms. Thomases is just another pawn in the Clintons' consuming desire for power!
It is the unstated, yet obvious goal of the power hungry liberals, who are in high places in the Clinton Administration, including the Clintons themselves, to abolish the Second Amendment to the Constitution. Why? Because the ultimate goal of a liberal is the acquisition and maintenance of power! They cannot have that power until they get rid of the Second Amendment, and take away the guns of law abiding citizens, for then will their power be complete.
Ms. Stapleton, you also mentioned the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights, you mark my words, when they have done away with the Second Amendment the First Amendment will soon follow!
Please, do your homework instead of allowing others to think and speak for you, for if you do allow others to do this for you, then you become a subject rather than a citizen!
Acceptance without question is ignorance.

50,000 Names
Editor, Times-Union:There are teddy bears and high school rings and old photographs that mothers bring of daddies with their young boys playing ball. There's combat boots he used to wear when he was sent "over there." And there are 50,000 names carved in the Wall.
There are cigarettes and cans of beer and notes that say: "I love and miss you, dear," and children who do not say anything at all. There are Purple Hearts and packs of gum, fatherless daughters and fatherless sons. And there are 50,000 names carved in the Wall.
They come from all across this land in cars, pickups, mini-vans and SUVs searching for a boy from long ago as they scan the Wall and they find his name, the teardrops fall like pouring rain. They silently leave a gift and go.
There are Stars of David and rosary beads and crucifixes, figures and flowers of all colors, large and small, there is a Boy Scout badge and a merit pin and little American flags waving in the wind.
And there are 50,000 names carved in the Wall ...
We who served have knowledge, which is difficult to share. Our hidden memories have the stuff nightmares are made of and we shun bringing them to light. Somehow, we must share with those who were not there so they too may understand the terrible truth of war and its consequences. So before you eat the food or slam down the brew, remember if you will, those who gave their all so you can have the three-day weekend.
Thank you, Gary, and everyone involved in the printing of this and thank all of those for caring.

Editor, Times-Union:Dear county residents, I think that you should be aware of your Emergency Medical Service. They are here to help you and take care of your emergencies. They have volunteers that put time and effort into trying to help the community. They are located in Warsaw, Pierceton, Mentone, Milford, North Webster, Syracuse and Silver Lake. All of these services are here to help your community and to help protect you from danger. Just like the fire departments they go out and storm watchÊduring those bad storms. When your loved ones are in trouble they are there as soon as they can from volunteers that leave from their homes at all times of the day and night and also leave their jobs. I just would like for everyone to know that all the services are great and should receive as much recognition as another because they all do the best they can and train really hard.Ê Just if you ever see them say thanks and give them a thumbs up for a job well done and the dedication they have done.
