Youth Praised
Editor, Times-Union:I witnessed something from a group of youth this past Saturday which deserves public praise.
In today's youth, there is a growing number of disillusioned youth who are turning away from Christianity and toward Wiccon---the occult. Saturday at the pro-life concert in Warsaw's Center Lake Park, two gentlemen were handing out leaflets titled "Ban the Bible." It was put out by a group called "Committee on Decency in USA." It was full of cult-type lies, double-talk and deceptions on the Holy Bible.
A large group of Christian teens surrounded these two men and began to calmly and quietly confront them about their material and the Bible. When these two men walked out of the park and up the hill past Zimmer, the youth persevered and continued to talk to them.
The men circled back to the park, surrounded by the youth. When the youth walked away, the two men left and did not return. I asked one of the youth if they were from a youth group. The answer was "Yes, and we are not going to just sit and do or say nothing about them!"
Youth, I wish to say how proud of you I am that you were not only willing to confront these men for your Lord, but also to persevere. It does my heart good to know there are youth like you out there working for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. As Dr. James G. Friezer, Ph.D., nationally known expert on occult survivors once personally told me, "...You are involved in exposing the kind of war Christians today are in and in helping others to take protective action. You must speak out boldly about what you know. Evil will only spread if good people do nothing..."
Youth, you are in the battle and doing well. I am proud of you and of those who have led you in your training. Please, Keep Up The Good Work! Their paper is an example of occult indoctrinational material aimed at hurting youth.
In Christ's eternal love.

Lincoln Highway
Editor, Times-Union:I was delighted to see Mike Harden's article "Remembering the Lincoln Highway" in the Times-Union. Mike talked about the highway in Ohio, but Warsaw's connection with that highway is also very real. In a little park on Lake Street in Warsaw, enclosed in a wrought iron fence, stands a special cement monument - a Lincoln Highway marker. In fact, the ONLY Lincoln Highway marker ON the Lincoln Highway is in the state of Indiana.
About this time of the year, in 1995, a special group of four interested persons initiated efforts to replace and rededicate the marker that had been carefully lifted out and preserved by the Warsaw Street Department during street renovations. After much planning and anticipation, on Sept. 1, 1995, a few hundred people gathered at the park for a special marker rededication ceremony. Honored guests gathered at the east end of Warsaw and paraded west though Warsaw in antique autos on the famed highway.
Among those guests were three men from Pierceton - who were Boy Scouts in 1928 from Pierceton Troop Number 1, when the 3,000 markers (one placed approximately each mile) were originally set and who participated in events of that day. Boy Scouts from Warsaw unveiled the refurbished marker as red, white and blue balloons lifted off in the fall breeze.
The original path of the Lincoln Highway followed U.S. 20 through
Dog Shot
Editor, Times-Union:We live on the north side of Dewart Lake. Last Wednesday at 1:30 or 2 p.m., our dog "Duke" was shot in his spine while he was chained up at his dog house. Duke was not a vicious dog. He has never bit anyone or did anything that all the dogs that run loose out here don't do. I'm glad our four kids and I were not home at this time because Duke's dog house was right beside their swing set and they could have been outside playing. The police didn't even investigate, but I think they should because there are not to be any firearms fired out here and our dog was shot in our back yard. We ended up putting Duke to rest Friday. He was paralyzed in his back legs and could not go the bathroom without help. I want to say to the person responsible, I hope you enjoy knowing four girls, ages 7, 7, 2 and 7 weeks miss and cry for their "Duke." If anyone has any information, please call 658-9197 or 371-6163.

Honor Vets
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to know why our government sends people into wars and gets a lot of them killed and then brings them home and they don't even honor them by building them a memorial. The only way a memorial gets built is if people go to places like Wal-Mart and drop coins into a milk can. I find this very disgusting about our government. This is not the way to honor the people who fought and died for our country. The government sent them into battle and the government should build them a memorial. Have a nice day.

Editor, Times-Union:Hats off to you!
Too often letters to the editor are a way to express criticism. I'm a firm believer that if we'd spend more time accentuating the positive, we could make for ourselves a better world.
When I purchased a new car some time ago, I assumed the company would send me a notice when maintenance was due, as before. One should never assume! Another place of business was recommended and I began a regular maintenance program there. I received a prompt and courteous notice each time it was due, just good business procedure.
Then came a series of events that place them above the rest. My granddaughter, home from college only a few days, developed a problem and they expended extra time and effort to correct it so she could drive back to college in time for exams.
In late December, my brother returned to Indiana from his home in Florida for our father's funeral. He discovered neither the heater nor defroster was functioning on the new car he'd just purchased. We called the company here in town that sold his brand of car, with no willing response. I then called my company and the problem was remedied yet that same day.
At a later date, my sister, on her way home from work, lost power but managed to get her car off the road, but into the entry way of this business. She tried to call Triple A, but her cell phone wasn't working. She entered their business at closing time to use their phone. They offered to check it out the next morning and four men pushed it behind their fence where it would be safe. Next day after work, she was able to pick up the car. The repair bill was so minimal, she tried to leave a tip for all their extra efforts, but was informed they didn't accept tips.
I know there are other businesses in town equally as accommodating, but still I'd like to say "Hats Off" to Lakeside Chevrolet!
