KCH
Editor, Times-Union:Recently there was a letter to the editor titled "Hospital Stay" in which a spouse expressed her anger concerning not being informed about a change in her husband's condition. While I can readily understand her being upset, I would like to offer a different perspective on KCH.
I went to the emergency room on March 18, and was admitted to ICU later that same day. I lost consciousness almost immediately upon my admission to ICU and became critically ill very quickly. Thus, for nine days, I was totally dependent on the staff to care for me in every way and to meet my every physical need. The information I have received from my family and friends indicated to me that the staff of both ER and ICU were very knowledgeable and diligent in their care for me. They not only expertly handled my physical crisis, they also took the time to offer support to my two daughters during what was a most difficult time for them.
I remained in the ICU for nine days during which time the staff was able to pull me through the worst of the crisis and stabilize me so I would be able to tolerate being transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for further treatment and surgery. I am now recovering at home. Some doctors have indicated to me that they had no hope for my complete recovery, no one can offer me an explanation of how I was physically able to recover, and several physicians have referred to my recovery as a "miracle." I include this information only as a way of indicating to you just how ill I was, how difficult it must have been to pull me through the crisis, and to point out that we do indeed have expert, knowledgeable medical personnel here in Warsaw.
I owe so many of the staff at KCH a heartfelt thanks. To the chaplain who struggled to locate my two daughters, informed them of my illness, and then was available to support and encourage them. To Dr. Turton, the physician in charge of my case, for the many long hours he spent at my bedside, for his knowledge and skill, and for his diligence in handling the crisis. To the staff in the ER for their initial care, for their knowledge in recognizing the symptoms I presented, and for being there to help when I quickly became critical in ICU. To the ICU nurses for their constant care, their watchfulness and skill, their "never-give-up-attitude," and most importantly, for the support and care they showed toward my two daughters. To all the rest of the staff, whether lab and X-ray techs, nursing assistants, office personnel, anyone who in any way had a part in my care.
I take my hat off to each and every one of you. I would like to offer you a very warm round of applause and my deepest, heartfelt gratitude. You are very special people and deserve to be recognized for the care and compassion you showed to me and my family. Because of your efforts, I am on the road to complete recovery. Thank you so very much and may God bless.

Prom Policy
Editor, Times-Union:Tippecanoe Valley will be having their Junior-Senior Prom on May 16. The school has a policy that does not allow anyone over 21 to escort a student to the prom. My daughter is dating a very nice young man who is over 21 and would like to escort her to the prom.
She went to the principal and asked if they could please change the policy. He told her she would have to go before the board and make a request. She followed all the steps necessary and was finally heard at 10 p.m. at one of the board meetings. She requested politely that they consider changing the policy. The board voted to have the boys fill out an application and then be interviewed by a committee to see if they were suitable to attend the prom.
Tickets went on sale and nothing had been done. The school told the students to go ahead and buy prom tickets and if they were unable to attend they would refund their money. As of May 5 nothing had been done. My daughter got a dress and her boyfriend ordered his tux. On May 6 the girls were called into the office and told that no one would be allowed to attend. The boys had filled out the applications, but none of them had been interviewed. The explanation was that one boy had a bad reference on his application so they decided no one could attend.
We have contacted board members, but are getting no results as to why the process was not followed the way they promised it would be followed. One board member said all we can do is attend the board meeting May 11 at 7 p.m. We are seeking support from anyone who cares about these young people. Our daughter has tried very hard to show respect to the people in charge of the situation. How do I teach her to respect her elders, when they have no respect for the young people?

Living Hope Says Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:Living Hope Ministries (church congregation, school staff, students and parents) wish to express our sincere thanks to all businesses, church families, school families and friends who helped to make our school-benefit auction a wonderful success! Much hard work, dedication and support from all who were involved are greatly appreciated. All who participated in many ways cannot be mentioned, but all efforts were noticed and, again, truly appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry
Editor, Times-Union:I am writing this letter so it can be in the paper of Times-Union. This letter is a sorry letter. A sorry letter to all the people that I have hurt. The teacher, kids, friends and family. I'm writing this letter because I am very sorry for everyone I hurt. I am so so SORRY. I hope the people that I hurt will forgive me. For all the things I have done to them. Please forgive me.

Proud Of KCH
Editor, Times-Union:After reading William Scott's letter on May 4, I was compelled to write one of my own. This letter should have been written two months ago, however, better late than never. I too have heard many horror stories of our local hospital, some of which were from people very close to me. I feel that some things, though unfortunate, happen for a specific reason.
I've had two surgeries in the past, and both times I was treated very well. Three months ago, one of the best things to ever happen to me came into this world. I must say that the OB department at KCH is top notch! My wife, new daughter, Haley, and I were treated with excellence and respect. I wish I could have remembered all the names of the nurses there and thank them personally. As new parents, we were very nervous to say the least and they made us feel at home. Special thanks to our physician, Dr. Erin Jungbauer, who couldn't have been more caring. She is definitely the best choice we could have made.
The nurses and other staff at KCH should be very proud of themselves regardless of what you might have heard in the past.
Thanks again.

Thank You
Editor, Times-Union:On April 18 I was given a beautiful birthday party.
Even though I'm confined to a wheelchair and cannot do for myself anymore, due to Parkinson's disease, God has blessed me with a wonderful pastor and many, many friends. He has given me the opportunity to tell others here at the village of the love of His dear son, Jesus.
Thanks to everyone for all the gifts and your prayers.
In Psalms 9:10 it says: "And they that know thy name, will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee." Again I say, thank you, dear friends, for all you have done for me. May the God of all creation bless and keep you in his care.

Canter Says Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:I wanted to thank you folks that voted for me. I ran a clean and honest campaign. I was not a politician in any sense of the word and we all know where that got me! My wife asked me the day after the election if I was disappointed. I said yes I was but I was also proud that 245 people trusted me enough to vote for me for sheriff. I am a lucky man.
Thank you again.
Glenn C. Canter
P.S. I would like to wish Jeff Bronsing good luck in the general election.
EMS
Editor, Times-Union:This letter is being written to voice my opposition to efforts by an area emergency medical service to move in and take over an area currently maintained by South Central Emergency Medical Services. Granted there have been times in the past that South Central EMS has had problems responding to calls, due to lack of trained personnel. On May 4 we will start an EMT class that will have approximately 10 students. Once this class is completed then perhaps we will not have the problems that we are experiencing due to lack of trained personnel. I have been with South Central EMS for over 10 years and I will try to do whatever it takes to keep this service going. Because if the service that is trying to move into and take over the area maintained by South Central, it could very well mean higher taxes for those served by South Central EMS because the service involved is a paid service and South Central EMS is an all volunteer not for profit organization, maintained by donation, fund raisers and charges from calls. I'm proud of the service that I help to provide to this area, and will do my best to help keep it going.
