Likes George W. Bush

Editor, Times-Union:
I was appalled when I read Bryan Ciula's recent letter. George W. Bush is the sort of man I want running our country. He is not willing to sit back and allow terrorists to carry out attacks against us. If you don't believe Sadam was/is a terrorist, then you must be a fool, just look at what he did to his own people, for that alone he needed to be stopped. Iraq is much better off without him and the majority of its people are happy American troops stepped in. Just imagine where we would be by now if our president hadn't sent troops into Afghanistan and later into Iraq, those terrorist would know America to be weak. How would the American public have reacted had Mr. Bush just sat back and accepted peacfully the great loss that was served to our great nation? I personally feel disgusted when I see or hear people lashing out at our president like this, he is a good man and I believe along with many others that he is doing the right thing. I realize many innocent are dying and I think it is terrible. When I hear 99 American servicemen died this month alone, I say a solemn prayer for them and their families, but if George Bush pulled our troops out now, then all those innocent victims and casualties of war, all of the servicemen proudly killed in battle would have died in vain. As far as you saying the sole purpose of this war is for oil, well, if President Bush did what he wanted, we would take our oil from Alaska, so I won't accept that complaint from anyone. I was born and raised in Warsaw, and I currently live in San Diego with my husband, Sgt. Mario I. Flores, United States Marine Corps. We are proud of the troops and we support the honorable Mr. Bush completely. Now you can say what you will about him and his regards to our military and the "sacrifices" he makes, but as a military family we see it as it is. Mr. Bush takes care of the military that protects the American people. I can't imagine any other president or current candidate serving the troops serving our country so proudly a Thanksgiving dinner in a danger zone, can you? The bottom line is, George W. Bush is a stand-up guy, a true American, and it saddens me to know so many of you out there don't see it. I'll leave you with this question: Where would America be now if Al Gore had won the previous election? Scary thought. Keep it up, George W. We love you!

REACT Building

Editor, Times-Union:
Help! Tri-County REACT #6026 needs a building! Why? For the past five years, we have sold fireworks as our No. 1 fund-raiser. The first three years, we were in the tent at Wal-Mart, first at the old building, and then we moved to the new building, when Wal-Mart moved. Two years ago, we opened for the season in the old Wal-Mart building, but now it is home to Big R. That's great, but now we need to rent a building for one month, so that we can raise money and give it back to the community. We have checked with several Realtors, but they are not interested in helping us. There are a lot of empty buildings in this community. Surely, someone will help us out.

In the past five years, we have donated to the K21 Foundation; the Brotherhood fund sponsored by the Warsaw Fire Department; Silver Lake Food Pantry; Our Father's House; Back to the Days of Koszciusko; Indiana State REACT; Combined Community Services; plus several individuals in the community who have needed help. We want to be able to continue this project, but we need a building. Anyone who knows where we can rent a building, or someone who would donate the use of a building, for our project, please call 260-740-8680.

People ask ... what is REACT and what do we do? REACT stands for Radio Emergency Associated Communications Team, and each team is affiliated with REACT International. We provide community service as volunteers through citizen band two-way radios. We provide support to emergency organizations, including SKYWARN, National Weather Service, local police and fire departments, when needed. We have provided traffic control and security for Back to the Days of Kosciusko, the Optimists and the Light the Night walk/run fundraisers. No one gets paid, as we are all volunteers. New members are always welcome.

Please ... does anyone know where we can rent a building? We are working on a deadline.

Living With Grandparents

Editor, Times-Union:
According to the 2000 census, the state of Indiana had 97,000 children living with grandparents. During the same time period in Kosciusko County, 1,038 children were living with grandparents. In response to this changing environment, a chapter of Grandparents As Parents Ltd. (GAP Limited) has been formed. We meet from 6:30-8 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at the Senior Activity Center, located at 800 N. Park Ave. in Warsaw.

We are a group of grandparents and other kinship caregivers who have come together to support and encourage one another. By building a strong support network, grandparents are better equipped to assist their grandchildren. Healthy communities are made up of healthy families. Healthy communities require good parenting and well-cared-for children.

We provide discussion, education and advocacy. For more information, please visit our Web site at www.gapltd.org or call 267-4493. If you are a kinship caregiver, please plan on attending our next meeting on April 26th.

School Board Audacity

Editor, Times-Union:
During the last WCS board meeting questions were asked but answers were limited to "no comment." What allows a public board to refuse to answer inquiries from the public? Public officials have the duty to speak about public issues, even when those issues are in litigation. As I patiently waited for the "Legal Update" portion of the agenda to be reached, I certainly expected to hear more than, "The next court date is May 7th at 9:30." I was sadly disappointed. When Dr. McGuire was asked for more information, he simply said, "No comment." I guess we should be thankful he was willing to give that much information. When board members were asked direct questions, they stared into space, as if deaf. What audacity to thumb their collective noses at their constituents.

Supports Smith

Editor, Times-Union:
I have never written a letter to the editor, so this is quite a new experience for me.

I have, however, known Becky Smith, who is a candidate for the treasurer's office, and Stephanie Esenwein, who is the outgoing treasurer, for many, many years. They have been working together, solving problems, dealing with changes and making the best of all situations.

It takes someone who knows and has had experience dealing with these issues to be the best candidate and who will keep our county strong.

I don't understand how any "outsider" can possibly know how to do this or where to even start. I don't think previous coaching experience or working on a railroad can possibly compete with the experience of running an office.

County work is completely different from other functions of government and Becky has been doing the county work for almost 14 years.

Let's keep our country treasurer's office working in the same excellent way it has been for these past years. To do this, be sure to vote for Becky Smith on May 4. She's intelligent, knowledgeable and dedicated to the county. She will keep our treasurer's office going in the right direction.

Seat Belt Enforcement

Editor, Times-Union:
There's a "seat belt enforcement zone" on Center Street just outside my office right now.

If your founding fathers could see what we have done to ourselves, they would be trying to figure out why they went to all the trouble.

"He who would trade liberty for security deserves neither," and right now liberty seems to be a thing of the past.

A very large segment of the American people have been begging for a police state for a long time and it would appear they are going to get their way.

They don't care if we want it or not and they don't care if we like it or not. You and I will conduct our lives as they see fit and we will have nothing to say about it.

I'm glad I don't have long to put up with this sort of thing but I sure feel sorry for my grandchildren. They may be safe and warm but liberty (life) will mean nothing to them.

Thanks To Coach Jensen

Editor, Times-Union:
I am a former WCHS student and football player. I would just like to take this time to thank Coach Jensen for everything he did for me, my friends, my team and the community. He placed many core values in us that I will carry for the rest of my life. He taught me discipline, perseverance and helped me establish a good work ethic. I would like to thank him for bringing the pride back into Tiger football. I was honored, and will never forget playing on Friday nights for Coach Jensen. He instilled in me pride and confidence that I will carry forever. I would just like to say thank you, Coach Jensen, and good luck in your future endeavors.
