Aghast At Protesters
Editor, Times-Union:As an 83-year-old World War II veteran with four years in the service, I am aghast at the so-called Americans protesting our country's efforts to release the Iraqi people from years of fearful tyranny under Saddam Hussein.
In early January of 1945 our Armada - the sixth Army of 164 ships, 3000 landing craft and 280,000 American troops - landed at Lingayen Gulf on Luzon in the Philippines to liberate the people from the cruel occupation. America - real Americans - at home and abroad banded together to accomplish our purpose. We had a traitor, Tokyo Rose, and in the Vietnam war we had Jane Fonda, and now we have traitor Peter Arnett! God help us!
Countless American citizens came from all over the world to enjoy the freedom in America. My mother's ancestors came from Oslo, Norway, and my father's forbears came from England. Why? For freedom from tyranny and for opportunities.
America has the best sanitation system, the best humanitarian system, the best postal system, the best highway system, the best (you name it) system in all the world.
How many people leave America for a better place in the world? ZILCH! Also, what other country in the world would rebuild the beaten enemies (Japan and Germany) with tons of money and compassion? We will do so in Iraq! God bless America!

Gruesome Details
Editor, Times-Union:I was watching the morning news this morning and there was a news story on a female and a child's body that had been discovered in California, and I was outraged at the amount of details that had been given out. Is it absolutely necessary that the new media tell us all the gruesome details? Can we have no respect for the persons that they were before they were killed? I was deeply disturbed, especially about the details of the child that were released. I am saddened at the fact that this all the new has to report about.

Mistakes Of Others
Editor, Times-Union:Dear President Bush, Senators Bayh and Lugar and Rep. Souder: Many of your responsible constituents have been waiting patiently for the 1994 Clinton/Feinstein federal "assault weapons" ban, and the wrongs it has caused, to expire so that we can have at least part of our constitutional rights returned.
I am personally appalled to learn that you may actually be in support of extending or renewing this aberration. What America must come to understand is that gun control, of any kind, has nothing to do with guns or even crime honestly but is all about the "control" of U.S. citizenry.
All that anyone in question needs to do is spend a little time in self-education, studying the results of "gun control" in our ally Great Britain or our neighbor nation to the north, or, for a little further proof, take a look "down under" for a very revealing, and consistent, volume of statistics regarding post "gun control" crime rates, especially violent crime statistics. Crime, especially violent crime, has increased at an alarming rate. In all three instances, this has happened in the name of "control" and this CANNOT be allowed to happen here in America.
The Second Amendment is THE original Homeland Security Act and it must remain intact and in force.
Please take a moment to learn from the mistakes of other nations, instead of following their examples blindly. You can rest assured that your voting constituents will be keeping abreast of how these issues unfold.

Proud
Editor, Times-Union:We are so proud to live in a community that showed such respect and sympathy to the Fribley family. As we read the Times-Union article about how people lined the streets of Warsaw, and how the employees of Donnelley's stood outside as the funeral procession passed by, it reminded us that we live in a great community.
We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Fribley family. May all thoughts and support from the community give you some comfort in this time of great loss.
