Greenway Support

Editor, Times-Union:
S.R. Johnson argues that our kids have nothing to do but cruise a dirty parking lot, and that the city owes them so much more than a limited use greenway. Had "S.R." attended the well publicized meeting, he/she would have learned that the original idea for a greenway in our community came from the need to connect the CCAC with the rest of the community by means other than a car. The proposed greenway also connects the Boggs little league fields and skate park. By "connect" I mean a safe access for walking, biking or roller blading. When the entire project is complete, it will also connect three public beaches and numerous fishing holes to the rest of the community.

When the project is complete our "kids" will have the choice of sitting in their cars in the dirty cruise lot, or they can venture out onto the new Greenway and participate in softball, soccer, baseball, skate boarding, basketball, fishing, swimming, biking, BMX, frisbee throwing in the park, roller blading, bird watching, walking in the woods or cross country skiing!

I have logged hundreds of miles riding my bike on rails to trails and greenway projects in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. And on all the trails I have seen people of all ages getting exercise and enjoying themselves. I am glad for the progressive leaders in our community who are bringing the federal grant money home. They are to be commended for making Warsaw a great place to live and to raise a family.

School Prayer

Editor, Times-Union:
A friend of mine gave this to me and I thought it would be appropriate for the newspaper.

Mary Had A Little Lamb
Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.

And everywhere that Mary went,

The Lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school each day,

Twasn't even in the rule
It made the children laugh and play,

To have a Lamb at school.
And then the rules all changed one day,

Illegal it became:
To bring the Lamb of God to school,

Or even speak His name.
Every day got worse and worse,

And days turned into years.

Instead of hearing children laugh,

We heard gun shots and tears.

What must we do to stop the crime,

That's in our schools today?

Let's let the Lamb come back to school,

And teach our kids to pray!

Postal System

Editor, Times-Union:
On March 3, 2000, I took a credit card payment to the (Atwood) post office for delivery to its destination.

Two and a half weeks later I received a letter from the credit card company stating that my payment was overdue. I was hit with $108 late payment fee, plus $25 to have the original check canceled.

The credit card company never received my payment. Which only shows the incompetence of the U.S. Postal Service in getting the credit card payment delivered on time and to its destination safely.

I'm not real happy.

Editor, Times-Union:
I was one of those 30 people at the meeting you mentioned.

All the questions you posed were good questions that would have been addressed at the meeting, if you would have been there. It would have been nice to see more there to support it. I'm sure you would have if you would have heard the presentation put forward by Jeff Noffsinger.

To answer your question, the majority of the Greenway can and will be used year round. Personally, I would rather see the kids in this community utilizing this pathway for biking, roller-blading, jogging, or just walking, rather than cruising up and down our city streets wasting expensive gas. Would it also not be better that they would hang out in our city park along this pathway, than to sit in a dirty parking lot?

One more note to leave with: This project has gone through great lengths to ensure that the money raised for this project does not include any city tax dollars and that it comes from private donations and grant money geared just for this type of community improvement.

I would encourage anyone else interested in this project to attend future meetings.
