NRA Banquet
Editor, Times-Union:This past Saturday I was in attendance at the Friends of the NRA Banquet held at 2517 in Warsaw. It was a great event, with the climax being a special flag that was auctioned off with a winning bid of $250. The money is dedicated to the families of our troops who are in a very tough fight in Iraq.
I had the privilege to personally speak with the wonderful lady who had the winning bid and thank her for being a good American. She is the type of person who makes this country so great. In appearance she looked as if she works very hard for her money and loves her beloved United States. She informed me that her son is with the U.S. Marines and is in the thick of the fight in Iraq. She also related he is so proud to be a Marine, and she shared her feeling of pride with us as a mother of a Marine. She shared her concern for his safety with us, but felt he is well trained and he will be OK.
As a combat veteran myself, I can share her son's feelings also, as any veteran would. I am still very proud that I served when and where I did. When I run into people like this lady, it makes me feel so good to be an American.

Fire Thanks
Editor, Times-Union:We would like to thank God, this community and all that have given so generously after our home burned. We are thankful to live where the community comes together to help those in need.
We are currently in a furnished rental home in Mentone. We are still waiting on the remainder of our insurance so that we may rebuild on our property. We are anticipating to start rebuilding in June.
Our thanks goes out to: all firefighters and EMTs, First Responders, an all others who contributed, called and offered assistance.
Our special thank-you to Carl, Gina, Jena and Mikayla Wireman for going way beyond what anyone would ask. They opened their home and rearranged their Christmas to include us. They are truly amazing people. We thank God for all our friends.

Vietnam Display
Editor, Times-Union:The Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization has authorized me to start painting a new display for our Wall Of Honor at the Veterans property, located near the junction of Ind. 213 and Ind. 26, south of Greentown, which is to show our support and recognition of a new generation of heroes.
This board will become part of the permanent display at the property, and will list all service members who served in Desert Storm, Bosnia and/or are serving in Afghanistan or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
There will be no charge to have a family member, friend or someone you know to be listed on this display.
To have a service member's name listed, all I need is the name, rank, branch of service, hometown and campaign (service member was involved in).
In addition, if the service member was awarded a medal (i.e., Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, etc.), I would like this information as a symbol indicating such will be placed next to service member's name.
If the service member gave his/her life in defense of their country during any of these campaigns, this will be noted by a cross in front of their name.
This information can be phoned to me at 260-723-4397 or 260-609-0162 or e-mailed to me at [email protected]
In these times when we are again seeing protests like we witnessed during Vietnam, we at HCVVO want our soldiers to know that we support them and pray for them daily.
HCVVO is one of the largest grass-root, unaffiliated Vietnam Veterans organizations and has been in existence for over 21 years. We have a membership of more than 1,000 members worldwide and hold the annual veterans reunion at our property each September. Membership is open to anyone, veteran or friend, and I am proud of the fact that my entire family are life members.
Please join us in honoring our troops, past, present and future and in praying for them.
God bless America and our troops!

Friends Of The NRA
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to take a moment to thank the local businesses and patrons who supported our recent Friends of the NRA fund- raiser banquet. The NRA Foundation is the national nonpolitical side of the NRA which financially supports youth hunter education projects, firearms safety training, as well as clubs and organizations who also support these efforts. The Friends of the NRA are the local groups who in turn hold fund-raising banquets to fund the NRA Foundation. One-half of the funds raised at local banquets remain within their home state to support local efforts while the other half of the funds raised go to the national level to support groups such as 4-H, The Boy and Girl Scouts and many others, who promote the future of the shooting sports, at the national level.
Approximately 200 patrons attended Warsaw's fifth annual FNRA banquet, which was held at and catered by the Ramada 2517 facility. These patrons made our event a fantastic success! The grand finale of the night was a Servicemen's Family Support Group flag which was auctioned off and the proceeds sent to support the families of our troops who are defending our freedom and safety.
The Warsaw Friends of the NRA is a very active committee who is now focusing its attention on the third annual Sept. 20th NRA Women on Target event. This event is designed to introduce ladies, young and old alike, to the shooting sports safely. These events provide a great deal of fun, while instructing ladies on the fundamentals of pistol, rifle, and shotgun events both at the Warsaw Rifle and Pistol Club as well as at KOSKO Conservation and Sportsman Inc. The event runs from approximately 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., and includes everything required, from firearms and ammunition to safety glasses and hearing protection. The event even includes a lunch co-sponsored by the Land of Lakes chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation! All of this opportunity for a cost of only $10! If you're interested in attending this great event, or if you're interested in helping out, contact either Lisa Roose at 267-2610 or Janet Black at 893-7214.
The sixth annual Friends of the NRA banquet is scheduled for Saturday March 13th, 2004, so mark your calendars for a good cause & a great time!

'Extreme' Carnival
Editor, Times-Union:On Friday, March 21st, Eisenhower Elementary PTO held an "Extreme" Carnival. It was "Extreme" indeed. With many new activities this year, the kids and parents had a wonderful time. Mr. Teevan made a return one-hour visit in the dunk tank earning him the nickname "Tidal Wave Teevan,"
We would like to thank the following sponsors who provided food, prizes and support. Medtronic, Wal-Mart, Hohman Excavating, Raab Water, A-1 Photo, Reinholt Town Furniture, Stonehenge Golf Club, Dr. and Mrs. Timothy Cook, Dr. Michael Thompson, Dr. Richard Sasso, Kendall Electric Inc., Mutual Federal Savings Bank, Blosser's, Ramada Plaza Hotel, Bistro A Lago, Kroger, DePuy, Applebees, Cosmo, The Party Shop, Denny House, Paws & Claws, Biomet, The Catering Kitchen, North Pointe Cinema, Reader's World, Kelaney's, Gilliam Bowling Lanes and Kim Hensley for the Mary Kay basket
Thanks to the many parents, family members and staff that made the carnival such a success by contributing time to volunteer, bake, provide pop for the student pop contest and support the library and student council fund-raisers. A special thank-you to Mrs. Burns for her help in the kitchen.
Last, but by no means least, we offer our sincere appreciation to the office and custodial staff for putting up with us all week. You guys are the best!

Fribley Tribute
Editor, Times-Union:I want to congratulate you on a well-written tribute to your community hero, Marine Lance Cpl. David Fribley, whose service to our great country is not taken lightly. I am a retired Marine, a transplanted Hoosier, working in Jacksonville, N.C., home of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade. As an Indiana native, whenever I read about a brother Marine from Indiana selflessly defending our freedom, my heart is especially heavy. Undoubtedly LCpl Fribley and I shared the same experiences growing up in Indiana and our families have much in common. My sincerest condolences to his family, high school and friends. Semper Fidelis.

Commendable Article
Editor, Times-Union:I would like to commend you on your honorable article describing my fellow Marine, Lance Cpl David Fribley. These are the type of men who are the true "heroes" in this new post 9-11 world that we live in. The article describes how Fribley was a patriot for his fellow Americans, putting nothing above liberty and freedom and how good of a person he was. I only wish that the mainstream liberal media would honor more of our fallen heroes like you have. I am sure that his family and friends, like myself, are very proud of him for his sacrifice. Once a marine, always a marine, even in death. Semper Fi.

Moving Article
Editor, Times-Union:Saw the article about David Fribley through the Drudge Web site. It moved me to tears. The description of David reminded me of a dear friend from high school, who enlisted in the army, was eventually appointed and graduated from West Point and was exactly "the type of man you would want your daughter to marry." My friend was killed in Vietnam. I still feel the loss, as do many others in our class. Please let David's parents and siblings know that there are strangers out there who really do feel their pain. If a gyrine and a grunt can get along, David will find good company in heaven. Their memories and sacrifice protect us, even after their passing, from becoming all those things we find so despicable in life.
They shall always serve. We shall always remember. God bless.

Great American
Editor, Times-Union:What a great American. It is too bad that the news and media always has to focus on the losers of the world, but never the winners. Although I have never met Mr. Fribley, he is one year younger than I am. I hope that his family and community cope with his loss well, as they will be in my prayers.
