Band Of Brothers
Editor, Times-Union:My heart was deeply saddened Tuesday with the news of Lance Cpl. David Fribley's death.
I knew who he was. Being a journalist, I was witness on several occasions to his prowess on the field of athletics. David and I never officially met, but when I heard the news, I thought back to an event in the Warsaw Community High School gym a few years ago. I was standing in the northeast corner of the gym next to a Marine in full dress blues. On the other side of this highly-polished Leatherneck was Bob Kesler of Explorer Van. The two of us engaged the young Marine in friendly banter, both of us having worn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor ourselves in younger days.
After hearing the tragic news today, I remembered watching David compete in track. And my mind went back to that young, proud Marine.
Although I didn't know David personally, we share a bond that can never be broken. We are both part of the illustrious Band of Brothers. And for that, I feel like I've truly lost a sibling.
Any words of comfort I could offer Lance Cpl. Fribley's family would fall dreadfully short.
But I can tell them that they are right to be so proud of his sacrifice - the ultimate sacrifice - for country and Corps. He has helped write a new chapter in the storied history of one of the world's most fierce fighting units. There was Belleau Wood and Tarawa; Iwo Jima and Khe Sanh ... and now, An Nasiriyah.
Semper Fi, Lance Cpl. Fribley.

True Patriotism
Editor, Times-Union:I just read the article about the fallen Lance Corporal, David Fribley. While I only know him from the article, what I can gather is that he felt true patriotism for his country and passion for the Marine Corps. Unfortunately Cpl. Fribley fell to Iraqi cowardice.
I am not a member of the military but I am a vehement supporter of our troops. God bless Cpl. Fribley and his family. Your payment does not pass by unobserved.

Heartfelt Prayers
Editor, Times-Union:I have just finished reading the online article about David Fribley featured on the Drudge Report and I need to express my heartfelt prayers, thanks and support to his friends and family for the ultimate sacrifice he has made.
And thank you, David, for understanding so clearly what you were fighting for. Your service and patriotism is a model that not many of us can measure up to. Our sincerest thanks.

Young Marine
Editor, Times-Union:I read the article on the young Marine. It gave me goosebumps and brought a lump to my throat. To imagine we still produce such fine brave young men should make this country and his parents extremly proud. Please let his parents and family know the majority of Americans feel for them and I only wish I had met this fine young man.

Hero
Editor, Times-Union:I just read your article on Lance Cpl. David Fribley and was hoping that you would convey our family's heartfelt condolences to his parents and family.
Everything about that young man speaks of an excellent family, headed by two lovingly diligent and faithful parents. He, and they, are a tribute to all that is great about this county. I can only hope that God will hold them especially close in this difficult time.
Garry and Linda, your son is a hero, but so are both of you as you quietly do the right things to raise your family and make this country the greatest nation in the world. You have our utmost respect and deepest gratitude.
Please know that we all grieve with you. Our prayers will never cease to lift you up to the Lord who is faithful to hear and bear all sorrows.
We are Marine parents as well. Our son is also a Lance Corporal. In the days and weeks to come may you be surrounded by the love of God and the loving arms of every family who respects and appreciates the terrible sacrifice that has been forced upon you.
