- Upward Basketball - Rally For Troops - Deepest Sympathy

Upward Basketball

Editor, Times-Union:
Upward Basketball of Warsaw has just finished up our fourth and most successful year. This year we had 790 kids participate in our basketball and cheerleading programs. It would be impossible to express adequate appreciation to all the people who provided their time and resources to pull off a program of this size. The directors, commissions and others who coordinate the scheduling; prayer partners, referees and testimony speakers who shared their faith; parent/coaches who took the time to understand the Circle of Praise and set the example; all those who helped with evaluations; the many financial contributors who place their trust in us and make it all possible; the K-21 Foundation who ensures that every child is provided an opportunity to participate through their scholarships; and all those who help at the awards ceremony. It is a long list of people with little in common other than the fact that all have been saved by the blood of Jesus. I would like to express my personal gratitude to the board of directors for your support, guidance and friendship.

Upward Basketball of Warsaw is a nondenominational Christian ministry incorporated as Kosciusko Sports Outreach Inc. Our operating principles are: Being keepers of the promise; Creating seed casters; Looking for ever-changing ways to share a never-changing message; To seek to have people look "upward," beyond sport to a saving knowledge in Christ Jesus; Being a first class, organized, detailed evangelistic ministry partnered together as a unified team.

We are thrilled with the success the program has had, and are as committed as ever to our mission of making every child a winner and to lift upward the name of Jesus Christ. For more information, call 267-0123.

Rally For Troops

Editor, Times-Union:
I would like to say that an awful lot of military families in the Warsaw area are upset and very disappointed that no one from the Times-Union could take the time to cover the Rally for the Troops on Saturday. We have a lot of people from Warsaw in Iraq and Kuwait, we have a son that is presently within 60 miles of Baghdad and I know that it would have cheered him up a lot to read about the Rally in the Warsaw newspaper clippings that we send to him. At least the Fort Wayne paper ran a great article and had some good photos.

The reason for not covering the Rally or even getting some pictures cannot be that you did not know about it because you were made aware of it via e-mail from me.

I sent an e-mail to the Times-Union in a letter to the editor with all the information. I also sent you an e-mail to the attention of Gary Nieter. This one said that if he was interested in some real human interest photos he should attend. I was not really suprised that no one had the time to show up and of course Gary was out in someone's pasture taking a picture of two cows. (That was certainly a moo-ving photo.)

This Rally for the Troops was just what it says, it was strictly for support for the troops and anyone that attended would agree that it was certainly a program that will stay with you for a long time.

I have attached some photos so you can at least see what it was like. It was hoped that at least 8,000 people would show up. The Rally was started late so people could get in. When it did start there were 20,000 and they were still backed up on I-69!

Editor's Note: The rally was in Fort Wayne. The Times-Union ran a promotional story about the rally on the front page of the March 20 edition. We will cover rallies conducted in our circulation area. A "Support Our Troops" rally is planned at the corner of Main and Market streets in North Manchester on Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.

Deepest Sympathy

Editor, Times-Union:
I just the read the story about David Fribley on the Drudge report home page, and I wanted to wish the Fribley family my deepest sympathy. Being a father of a 9-year-old, I can't even imagine their sorrow and loss of their boy. I wish them my very best, and want them to know that I am very proud to be an American, for what their boy sacrificed his life for.
