Restaurants
Editor, Times-Union:I'm writing about our family restaurants in Warsaw, we have about none to speak of. Why can't we have a restaurant like a Denney's come to our town of Warsaw?
We have several nice restaurants, but they are so expensive you can't go to them unless it is a special occasion.
Warsaw is full of mostly fast food. Sometimes you would enjoy just having a nice breakfast or a nice dinner without having to pay through the nose.
We also miss the American Table so much. The Boathouse is a wonderful place to eat, but again, it's too expensive unless it is for a special night out. I hope they plan to re-open soon.
Could someone inquire about a Denney's? They have fine food at reasonable prices and no liquor. Makes for a nice place to dine.

Editor, Times-Union:I am writing this asking for help to save the home of many special people, many of them are not able to speak out for themselves, so we from Hickory Creek come to you for them, I have only worked at Hickory Creek a short time so far, but the love that is there is hard to express. This is the HOME of 32 special people. We are all a family there, the staff and the residents. The owners want to close the home, then what happens to the family? The family that's been together a long time split apart in different directions. I come to you today, anyone that can help, to keep the family there, together, where they belong. I am a CNA and everyday I am privileged enough to see their smiles, hear their laughter. But now the laughter's turned to tears, the smiles to sadness. ... Help bring the smiles, the laughter, the joy back to this home ... please help keep the love alive and our hands joined together. ... Please keep us all in our home. Hickory Creek ... a home full of love.

Hickory Creek Residents
Editor, Times-Union:This letter is being written on behalf of all the residents of Hickory Creek at Warsaw.
We received word from our administrator on Tuesday March 13, 2001, that our facility will be closing its doors by June 1st, because our building is in need of a lot of repair and the company, Omega, doesn't want to pay to have it fixed up.
So I am asking anyone out there that has a heart to help us out so our special residents won't be sent out all over the place. They are happy here. Most of us are their family when their real family can't be there. This facility is for the MR/DD. MD and we do have behaviors. These people were sent to us because no one else wanted them.
I have worked in this facility for 22 years as of March 28th, 2001. We, the staff here, don't want to see our "special family" split up like that. These people are my second family. Most of our residents can't speak for themselves to say "I don't want to move." And a few have said "I don't want to go anyplace else." And when you have one that can't see you put their arms out to hug you and start to cry and say "I don't want to move from here because I love you girls too much." That alone can rip your heart out, and some of them don't know what's going on.
It is breaking my heart to see this happening. That is why I'm writing this letter. I can't just stand back and not try to do something about it. It just isn't fair to them to have to readjust elsewhere.
I have seen a lot of heart-breaking holidays when some of them would go to the front door to watch for someone to come and see them. In times like that we are the only family they have.
It is sad that some of these special people are sent here to be forgotten about. I have cried with them and I have laughed with them. They can make your day.
These people are human beings to and it isn't fair for them to be put through that. So I am crying out, begging, for any help we can get to be able to keep our special family together and not lose their home.
So, if anyone out there has a heart and hears our pleas for help, please respond. We love these people, so please help us keep them together.

KEMRAD
Editor, Times-Union:Have you ever been out and noticed a group of individuals helping the police during a crisis or emergency?
Well, this group of people belong to an organization called KEMRAD. This organization is nonprofit and the people give their time and energy back to the community. KEMRAD stands for Kosciusko Emergency Radio.
This is a thankless job, they hardly ever get mentioned, cursed at by the public, spit at, or someone will try to run over them.
This organization frees up the police so they can do their jobs. KEMRAD does parades, ballgames, helping during wrecks and emergencies that mother nature puts upon us.

March Madness
Editor, Times-Union:Once again "March Madness" has arrived. Not only has it arrived in this nation, but what about the frenzy it must surely cause in "heaven?" Can one imagine the bind this madness puts God in when each team prays to Him for a victory? What formula does God use to decide who wins or who loses? When the winners give all the credit to God, who should the losers give the credit to for losing? (Might there be an executive board meeting beteen God and the adversary to decide who the winners will be?)
And another important thing about God giving championships: Why should there be any losers with the high standards of moral integrity of all those involved in the Madness of March (also a few other "Madness Months" to decide other champions)?
