Disrespectful
Boy, if you were one of those in attendance at Blackford High School on Saturday watching the boys basketball Regionals, You were treated to some great, classic,Indiana style basketball. And you would have also been as outraged and hurt as I was, at the trashing of our National Anthem by the Tippecanoe Valley student body.
Right before tip off, and in front of a few thousand fans, a handful of very talented Blackford County girls were singing our National Anthem acoustically. When the final verse came, the student body of Tippecanoe all shouted "VIKINGS" loudly over the last word in the song.
The entire gym seemed shocked; I know I was.
And soon afterward the loud "boos" started. (Yeah, I was one of them)
But I'll tell you something; I have spent more years going to ball games than those kids have had birthdays. And I have never in my life seen or heard something like that before.
To have a student body or entire booster section, purposely yell over the final verse or word of this country's National Anthem, shows a complete lack of respect, and it's a disgrace to this country.
Those Tippecanoe students should be ashamed of themselves, along with their parents, and the Tippecanoe Valley administrative staff and athletic director.
Maybe they need to do some extra homework and learn about the sacrifices that this country's 'BRAVE', (NOT Viking), men and women have given for this country.
Its those true American heroes who laid down their own lives to allow us our freedoms, including the "freedom of speech", which allowed them to trash our National Anthem on Saturday with no worry of Fine or Punishment... Too bad....
Well maybe there was a bit of justice served on Saturday after all...
I mean, they did get beat in the first game by the Jay County " PATRIOTS "
School colors of Red, White and Blue,
And you can bet your ass they know how the song goes.

Abortion
Editor, Times-Union:Kosciusko County Right to Life recently included an article in its newsletter reporting Planned Parenthood Federation of America's new annual record for abortions performed in its facilities (255,015 abortions performed in 2004). A person responded to that article stating that Right to Life must not be concerned about women. Since there may be others who have this same perception, I thought it might be helpful to answer this concern in the paper.
Actually, Kosciusko County Right to Life is very concerned about the impact of abortion on women as well as the baby. We are concerned about the physical (cancer, uterine perforation, infection, excessive bleeding, etc.) and psychological (suicidal thoughts and attempts, alcohol and drug abuse, chronic relationship problems, etc.) complications that many women who have had abortions experience.
Post-abortive problems are so prevalent that a few years ago a national organization, Silent No More Awareness Campaign, was created to give women an opportunity to publicly share their experiences with abortion. I recently had the opportunity to attend an event sponsored by Silent No More. A number of women shared their stories. All of these women told how their abortions had negatively affected them. The impact on these women was obvious even though, in some cases, the abortion had been many years ago.
The abortion industry tries to convince people that abortion is safe. The truth is that women are being injured and in some cases dying from abortion. The FDA is currently looking into the deaths of four women from RU-486 abortions (a medical abortion). Early last year a woman died from an abortion performed at a Kansas abortion facility.
If you are a woman dealing with a past abortion, please go to www.silentnomoreawareness.org If you are pregnant and considering your options, please call 800-395-HELP. For those who would like more information on the effects of abortion, I recommend that you go to www.afterabortion.org
Abortion is a procedure that, while obviously taking the life of a baby, also has a negative impact on the woman. The impact of that abortion will follow her for the rest of her life.
For those who might be interested, our newsletter article also reported statistics from Planned Parenthood of Indiana's 2005 annual report (Warsaw's Planned Parenthood is an affiliate). The number of abortions performed in Indiana Planned Parenthood abortion facilities was 3,931 surgical and 1,024 medical abortions.

Biofuels Plant
Editor, Times-Union:Who wants the world's largest biofuels plant in their back yard?
Sure, it sounds great unless you live beside it. All I have heard and read is how great this plant is going to be, and how it is going to have a positive economical impact on the area.
Well, has anyone thought how it's going to affect you personally? The truth is most people will not experience the first direct benefit from this plant. With the state incentives and tax abatements, it won't even be good for the surrounding communities for many years. However, it will adversely and immediately affect the surrounding neighbors. What about depreciated property values? If you think it won't change the value, I know of a few close residents whom would love to sell you their property.
What about those people? Would you like to live next to the world's largest biofuels plant? With the overwhelming economic advancement this county has already had with the orthopedic industry, this plant will not have the impact the press has made it out to have.
Eighty jobs? How many of these new jobs are skilled labor? In reality, the biofuels plant won't create 80 new jobs to the area residents. Local orthopedic factories multiply this number on any given year.
The only direct benefit from the local plant is to the big farmers; full-time farmers with lots of acreage and their own semi trucking.
I feel sorry for the local neighbors around the proposed plant and only hope Louis Dreyfus plans on compensating those hard working individuals for their future loss.
