Editor, Times-Union:Dear President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Senator Lugar:
My name is Christopher M. Carson; I am 15 years old and have been home-schooled for the last two years. My mom and I live with my grandparents, so I recently have become aware of the problems with their insurance. My grandparents lost both health and life insurance at the same time when the company where my grandpa worked for 34 years and retired from went bankrupt. He worked for L.T.V. Steel in East Chicago, Ind. He paid for 34 years on life and medical insurance that was seldom used during this time. Could L.T.V. have been made to offer their retirees an alternate plan to be able to keep their existing insurance that they had been promised in their retirement package?
Why couldn't President Bush have intervened on behalf of the retiree to help them keep their benefits? Right now, my grandparents are having a hard time. They pay out close to $400 a month on insurance that is almost worthless. My grandmother has many health problems and the insurance before picked up many of the incidentals like alcohol pads and syringes for her diabetes, now it does not. Prescriptions are only paid for if generic is available. Grandma's insulin and the rest of her medicine are not available in generic form as of yet. What are you and the rest of the legislative process going to do about it? Is the president going to veto any legislation on this issue or will he sign it?
Is it not time that the government started looking after people of the United States instead of big business pocketbooks? If we could keep more jobs here, we could avoid companies going bankrupt. Americans are getting tired of seeing all their jobs heading for Mexico and overseas. (If you let them keep doing this, then no one will have a job to go to, no one will have money to buy things and then where will we be?) I do not want to see this happen. Let's start today by keeping jobs here. Please put yourself in their place, what would you do?
Thank you for your attention and I look forward to reading your responses.

Editor, Times-Union:Today's (3-10) newspaper's front page was interesting. First, President Bush is still pushing for and "cautiously hopeful of winning U.N. votes" to attack Iraq. Second, "North Korea test fires missiles." Third, "Iran closer to having nuclear weapons." Fourth, "Analysts see a $1.82 trillion deficit." What a front page! We are already "involved" with a war on our right and our left. Will Iran be a "secondary" war for President Bush? Say, another feather in his hat? Isn't a $1.82 trillion deficit enough? Just where is our "leader" taking us? Does he have to finish what his father started? Is our leader's oil background and interest part of the equation? If we are the world's police, who in the h--- is ours?

Thanks For Support
Editor, Times-Union :
I just wanted to thank the community for your support. I especially want to thank Rick White from Culligan Water for supplying water for the recruiting office and our pool functions. His son is Cpl. David White, who graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 2001 and is currently serving his country in an elite unit in the Marine Corps (Force Recon). I would also like to recognize other Marines from the area who are currently stationed around the world and some in the Gulf region: Joey Woodling, Nick Houze, Mark Ianigro, Josh Dirck, Chad Fisher, Elyse Hardin, Andrew Stump, Brandon Ley, Andy Kohman, Joseph Clemens, Brian Jones and Rob Byrd.
To all the parents who have sons and daughters in the Marine Corps, please stop by my office in Warsaw or give me a call and let me know where your loved ones are so I can let the community know; thank you.
From Warsaw Community High School this year we have not had a senior join yet, but Richard Wolfe, who graduated in 2001, joined and will be leaving for recruit training in December. He is currently attending a Bible College in New York. From Wawasee High School, seniors this year are Matt Miller, John Gabbard, Twilight Wolfinger and Daniel Miller, who leave for recruit training this summer. Richard Kidd graduated from Wawasee in 2000, and he leaves this month for recruit training. Michael Ashpole and Sally Chandler graduated from Wawasee High School in 2002. Michael leaves April 18 for recruit training and Sally is in recruit training, Paris Island, S.C. Chris Yoder graduated from Triton High School in 2000 and is currently in recruit training, San Diego, Calif., and will graduate April 18.
From Plymouth High School two seniors that graduate this year are Todd Jolly and Bryant Clevenger, who leave for recruit training in October.
Lastly, Bremen High School has had four seniors join the Marine Corps and they will leave for recruit training in September: Anthony Stamper, Allen Downing, Steven May and Darren Winkelman. Each one of these individuals has decided to take the challenge and see if they have what it takes to become a United States Marine.
