Dimas' Sentence

Editor, Times-Union:
What does it take to get a death sentence or at least a life sentence for a vicious criminal? If Christoval Dimas gets 25 to 45 years, he will be out on the street in as little as 12-1/2 years. He will kill again. When people like him are set free and strike again, I think the people who made it possible should be put on trial with him.

Thanks For Help

Editor, Times-Union:
Thanks to the two young men who on Feb. 28 at 9:15 a.m., on the street behind Burger King, assisted me after I was involved in a two-car accident.

Within seconds these young men were at my car to assist me. Upon seeing I was not injured, they left without my thanks and getting their names.

To these two young men, for your concern and caring, I send my sincere thanks.

Hit And Run

Editor, Times-Union:
This letter is directed to the person involved in a hit-and-run accident that occured in Packerton March 1 at 7:03 p.m. You are such a coward! You hit my car and then took off. My car was parked. Why were you driving like a total idiot? Were you drinking, high on drugs or no insurance or driver's license? You know you did something wrong but did not have the courage to stick around and take responsibility for your actions.

What you did not know was we have a witness who saw you run the stop sign at Packerton Road and CR 800S. They saw how you almost ran into a house and then hit my car, backed up and sped off going north on Packerton Road. I have just one question for you: What if there had been someone in my car when you hit it? Would you still have taken off like you did? Probably, since you were driving like an idiot. The witness was able to give the officer a description of your vehicle. We know what it looks like.

Did you figure that because it was Packerton that it didn't matter, nothing would be done, who cares. I care. You did a lot of damage to my car. I figure that you have to be a young person. Adults usually show more responsibility than you. Does it make you feel big or untouchable because you got away? I have a lot of people watching for you, as well as the officer who came out and took the report.

The Manchester Police Department was also alerted of your vehicle. I think you will get caught, maybe it will take us a while to find you, but we will find you. I have insurance, do you?

Please be a big person and admit that you did wrong. Turn yourself in to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department or at least have the guts to stop and say you're sorry.

Planned Parenthood

Editor, Times-Union:
In reply to the letter that was sent in about a month ago regarding abortion protestors at Planned Parenthood, I agree the pictures used are very graphic and truly offensive. What I think this lady fails to realize is that her logic would lead to NO memorial of the Holocaust victims that Hitler murdered.

The whole point of showing pictures is to get people to see the truth about abortion. Murder is very offensive and we need to do all we can to take a stand for the innocent lives and hopefully turn the tide of a nation that does not value human life. I can bet the daughter of this lady will never abort her own child.

To all the women out there who live with the pain of abortion, please take a stand for your baby's life and save others from the horrific reality of abortion.

Choose life, your mom did.

For the love of children and their mothers,

Property Taxes

Editor, Times-Union:
Property taxes going up! Hold on to your hats 'cause you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Yes. They can and will. Property taxes can be raised each year and done so without any proof of need. Quite often simply because they can be raised and mean nothing more than more money to squander.

In hopes of catching their attention, in January I mailed a letter to all of the legislators who were printed on blue paper. In the letter I referenced two laws that permit an annual increase and asked that they take action to change these laws in order to correct this injustice.

Apparently they feel that it should be the right of taxing units to increase our property taxes with complete disregard to the coming inability of many to pay the increases. I say this because I have received a few thank yous but know of no action taken as of yet. Oh, well, it's only YOUR money. If you feel that these annual increases should stop, then call your legislators today. Phone numbers: 800-382-9467, senators, and 800-382-9842, represenatives.

Your voice and vote do count! If those aren't enough reasons to change these two laws, then perhaps you should speak much louder at election time.

Chef Charlie's Thanks

Editor, Times-Union:
Dear Supporters,
I would like to take this time to thank all of you for your support this past winter. It has been a mild winter but hard for those who depend on public support to help care for God's people. There has been so much going on, with the economy as well as the country, that folks have not had a lot of funds to share with those of us who serve the needy in our county. What funds that have been coming in have been very much appreciated. I want you to know that without the support of you, the general public, as well as the local churches and businesses, the free meal program would not have been able to continue.

The Roving Chef normally serves up to April 1, but due to a medical problem, I will have to stop the program early this year. I will still be doing presentations at local churches and clubs as scheduled and the catering will still start the first of April as planned, so there should be very little inconvenience to anybody and those who need to get a meal can go to Our Father's House for assistance.

Once again, thank you for your support, please call 260-839-8503 or 888-839-8503 for more information or contact me by mail at P.O. Box 705, Pierceton, IN 46562 or e-mail: [email protected]
