All Can Be Saved

Editor, Times-Union:
This letter is in response to Mrs. Kurosky's letter of March 8.

I reread the March 4 letter by Mr. Stichter of Milford which Mrs. Kursoky had written her letter in response to. I actually reread it several times to try to understand what it said, I never could. I do have one question, though, who is this "certain class" of people he is referring to?

The real point of my letter is this, I, not only as a Roman Catholic, but as a Christian, found this letter extremely offensive. If I were a non-Catholic Christian, I would have found it equally so.

When I read the sentence about the "travesties inflicted upon the faithful since the Vatican II "experiment," I thought that I had missed something in my 43 years of solid Catholic upbringing and faith! The biggest changes in Vatican II were offering the sacrifice of the mass in English versus Latin and the priest turning around to face the people. No changes were made in the basic tenets of our faith. I don't understand how making the mass more understandable to the believers can be called a travesty.

Mrs. Kurosky, one of the things I am the most proud of about my chosen religion is that, until now, I have never heard a Catholic put another religion down and imply that they do not have a chance for redemption and forgiveness of sins as you do here. Jesus died for ALL of our sins. For those who were alive in 33 AD, those alive now and those yet to be born. He died for ALL of our sins and his love will redeem ALL who believe in Him.

Mrs. Kurosky, you have a right to your opinion, as do I. You should be ashamed of the way you have insulted other Christians!

Loose Cannons

Editor, Times-Union:
If I had to choose between a dog or Mr. Harold Kitson being muzzled, I'd choose Mr. Kitson. They say humans are smarter beasts than dogs, although I'll leave this one out for debate. Loose cannons are fine until they blow. Enough.

Trillion Dollar Man

Editor, Times-Union:
Not long ago on a TV series Lee Majors was dubbed the "Million Dollar Man." Today we have a greater sequel. George Bush has requested raising the federal debt limit another trillion dollars. He should be dubbed " The Trillion Dollar Man."

The debt limit has been raised twice during this administration : from 5.9 trillion to 6.4 trillion to 7.2 trillion, which has now been spent. The Washington establishment's insatiable appetite for spending future generations' money must be stopped now!

Certainly any sane American citizen should fight this extravagance. And any elected public servant, worthy of the people's support, must practice spending the people's money as if it were their own. Otherwise they should be voted out of office at the next/earliest election.

It has been reported that "W" has a master's degree in economics from an Ivy League institution. Maybe - but I wouldn't allow him to manage my kids' piggy-bank based on his performance.

Editor, Times-Union:
I am just now recovering from a very bad chest cold and remembered I'd had much the same thing while still living in Florida just about one year ago. So I called the doctor's office and asked if one of the nurses could request the permission of whichever doctor was there (there are four doctors in that office). I was put on hold for 15 minutes (long distance - 5 cents per minute) and the nurse finally came to the phone with the statement that "they" the nurses had decided that I should not take the Cefadrolix 50 mg. that I wanted since among my allergies was a closely related medicine that I was allergic to.

I hastened to tell her that I had had a deep chest cold one year exactly like this one and my doctor back home in Florida prescribed it and I was much better the very next day and almost completely well in three days time. She paid absolutely no attention to me and I grew tired of her prattling and was coughing my head off so I hardly heard what she'd said, so hung up and as far as that office was concerned - gave up! I got back into my "Vicks Salve" outfit and again smeared myself with it and spent the sickest day I have had for a good long time. I finally took a sleeping pill - hoping it would help me through the remainder of the day - then a girl named Donna called and stated "they" had decided I could take it and she asked which pharmacy we used and I told her.

My husband was in North Webster having work done on our lawn mower, but as I was wiping off the Vicks and washing up, putting on decent clothing, he arrived home, and when I told him of the phone call, he said, "Well let's go!" And since I was decently dressed by that time, we did. Only to arrive at the pharmacy to find they had not called it in at all. So I asked the pharmacist if I could use one of their phones - got on the phone and was pretty curt when I asked why my medication was not called in.

About that time I had one of my coughing spells and rushed to the bathroom so I would not make a mess in the pharmacy and when I came out, the pharmacist told me they had received a call that my medicine was there. I had worn a mouth mask so I would not spread the germs of whatever I had to the nice ladies who work in that pharmacy. From my "newspaper" days I do remember "mention no names unless it is a quote which you may print as 'allegedly said,'" so Donna, you are the only person I mentioned by name and my name is Donna too so hopefully you will not get in any trouble over calling me to give me help. God bless you, Donna!

Congrats, Tigers

Editor, Times-Union:
It sure has been an exciting time for WCHS sports! Congrats to the Lady Tigers Basketball team for a great season!

Thanks to the Times-Union for good coverage of the so-called "minor" sports this season too - wrestling, gymnastics (except for last week's sectional that got lost without pictures) and swimming. I especially appreciate that you have been putting in times for swim meets - there are quite a few of us readers who look for that.

Huge congratulations to Coach Aukeman and the WCHS Men's Swim Team! Your performance at state was outstanding! Finally, two more of those dusty records have been replaced with a new name and a date in the right century.

Nate Taylor, you deserve a big salute! It is just great to see the 1980s disappear from the record board in such a commanding way. It's about time in more ways than one.

Keep up the good work!

School Closings

Editor, Times-Union:
In September 2003 the WCS school board voted to close Atwood, Claypool and Silver Lake elementary schools. Overcrowding at Harrison School has been a concern and this school has been excluded from the transition in closing the three schools. In the current transition plan, the only elementary school that won't be overcrowded is Harrison. All of the other elementary schools will have higher student enrollments than the recommended building capacities based on current enrollments.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are planning to be spent to accommodate the higher enrollments at the schools. It is obvious this transition is a short-term solution and new elementary buildings will need to be built. The higher operating costs that are being developed to accommodate the transition will become inherent expenses even after new buildings are built. The current administration will probably not be here long, but the taxpayers will be accountable for their fiscal irresponsibility for years to come.
