Dog Owners
Editor, Times-Union:We are responsible dog owners. So I do believe our complaint is legitimate. There are dogs running loose in our neighborhood. This Sunday two large dogs, one white looking like a bulldog or boxer and the other light brown, were running across our lawn. I started to leave my home and the white dog come upon my walk and was growling. There is a dog ordinance that all animals are to be leashed or confined to the owner's property. Who is responsible for enforcing this? The dogs make their mess in our yards, and the people that walk their dogs, please pick up after them, don't let it lay in your neighbor's yard. If you own a dog, be responsible for it, please, and thank you.

Moral Values
Editor, Times-Union:In response to the recent negative thoughts on gay marriage, I would like to pose this question: Who decides what moral values are correct and right for this country?
As far as I'm concerned, that is up to each and every individual that inhabits our great nation. People are always going to have conflicting views on controversial issues like that of gay marriage. The thing we must all remember is that in America, everyone is equal regardless of race, gender, sexuality ... etc. And although anti-gay marriage views are shared by a vast majority of the nation right now, the Constitution of the United States is based solely on the fact that minorities are always listened to and respected! Whether a person is straight or gay, or straight and religious, or gay and religious, they should always be listened to, and treated equally. One thing from yesterday's Opinion Page is true, homosexuals should NOT get any special treatment that heterosexuals don't get. But the point right now is, homosexuals aren't getting EQUAL treatment ... and therein lies the denial of a basic human right.

Caring People
Editor, Times-Union:We had lost our Pomeranian-Pekinese mix on Friday Feb. 27th so I called the Warsaw Police Department. So a lady had found a dog and she called the Police Department. They called me, it was not our dog, but they were really trying to help. So I really want to thank our Police Department for everything they did. On March the 3rd we did find our dog at Oakwood Cemetery. So I would like to thank the people at the cemetery. I would like to thank Marsh Supermarket, V&E Gas Station and 1st Source Bank and every place that let me put up fliers. Special thanks to Marcia Anderson, who called to let me know that she saw a dog at Oakwood. And also to everyone else that called to say that they saw a dog. Also Matthew Manuel, who helped me find my dog. We have had this dog for seven years and she is like family. I know that a lot of people were praying for us to find her. I really appreciate that. It is great to know that there are still caring people.

Gay Marriage
Editor, Times-Union:This is in response to "Gay Marriage" by Rebecca Surface. I was outraged when I read what she had to say. I'm a 22-year-old lesbian who has been with "my wife" for five wonderful years. I can't wait until the day that we are about to have our basic human right to marry the person we love. It is kinda funny when you take a look at the big picture. We are not able to marry because it isn't right, nevertheless, heterosexuals can know each other for 15 minutes, fall in love and get married, then the next day get a divorce, adding to our outrageous divorce rate. What will it hurt for me to marry the person I love? If anything, it will help the economy because weddings are not cheap. I exceptionally love the part: what are we teaching our children. How about love and tolerance and unity and understanding. What we do not need is more hate and discrimination. I feel sorry for those people who are so afraid of anything that is not just like them. But it is going to be OK, that is what I keep telling myself, it is going to be OK. There are many groups who have been through this exact same kind of things. First it was Hitler versus the Jews and then blacks versus whites and now it is gay versus straight. I think that it is a messed up world where it is OK to tell someone who they can and can't marry. In my world everyone has the right to love and be loved. To be exactly who they are meant to be: gay, straight or whatever!

Editor, Times-Union:I might be prejudiced, but I thought the photo that Gary Nieter took of Coach Ogle talking to his players with one second remaining and the score on the scoreboard showing, was the best sports picture I have seen in all my years of coaching.
Gary, enter that picture in the news contest, and you will win.
