Go Tigers

Editor, Times-Union:
First of all, congratulations to the Warsaw Tiger boys basketball team for winning the 2006 sectional championship! The players and coaching staff gave 110 percent and it showed, with every possession of the ball, whether it was on offense or on defense, we played as a team. We never gave up! Great job!

Now it's on to the regional this Sat. at 10 a.m. at Marion against the Muncie Central Bearcats.

Now, I want to challenge all the Tiger fans to come out this Saturday and show your support for the Tigers at the regional. Students, high school, middle school or elementary, get together with friends and go!

You will have a great time. Adults, let's get out and show our support for the team. Whether you have followed the team all year, half the season, or just now and then, try to get out and come to the games this Saturday. Bring your friends. They may just be waiting for a call.

Let's show Muncie Central what kind of fans we can be. Let's pack the stands with Tiger fans and be vocal. Whether the Tigers are ahead, tied, or behind, let's rock the place! Let's make it sound like a home game for the Tigers. The cheerleaders are there to cheer on the Tigers. Let's help them out. I wish the best to the Tiger team and the coaching staff this Saturday.

As far as the best play at the sectional championship, it was the picture of Coach Ogle and his wife celebrating the championship in Monday's Times-Union. That play will stand forever.

Students, be there!
A 32-year tiger fan.

Pet Adoption

Editor, Times-Union:
The Animal Welfare League Board would like to take the opportunity to outline adoption fees for those who graciously adopt our pets into their homes.

The local adoption fee for dogs and cats is an average pet adoption fee comparable to animal shelters in northeast Indiana. The fee covers the following:

Dogs - We administer a Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Coronavirus, Leptospirosis combo and a Bordetella vaccination on all dogs and puppies. We also perform a heartworm test and use a general wormer on all dogs and puppies.

Cats - We administer a Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia vaccination on all cats and kittens. We also test for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV/FIV) and use a general wormer on all cats and kittens.

The reason hundreds of animals are destroyed annually and shelters are overpopulated is due to lack of animal spaying and neutering. The Animal Welfare League is taking a proactive role in Kosciusko County to attempt to greatly reduce the number of animals that must be destroyed. Generous local veterinarians join with AWL to provide a spaying and neutering program. All animals adopted from AWL will receive a vet check up and spaying or neutering. This is provided through the adoption fee. Average spaying or neutering costs alone range from $65 to $150 per animal and an average office visit is $22 at a veterinarian office.

Considering this, we hope that community members can have a better understanding of the Animal Welfare League adoption fees of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats.

With the help of our community and those who adopt pets into their homes, we can work together to control the pet population in Kosciusko County and build a healthier community through compassionate, quality and humane care for animals.

Judging

Editor, Times-Union:
I'd like to respond to the letter written by John Swick.

Wow, where to start. First, I don't judge anyone for any reason. I believe everyone has a right to live their life as they see fit. God is the only one to judge and we are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

You say you don't judge, yet you judged a child who was being victimized in a horrible way. How can you even say that a child who is being molested "likes" what is being done? These people who hurt children are sick and will do anything to keep them from telling. I guess you can say I judge them because I think they are the lowest form of scum on this earth. Do I think I'm "holier than thou"? Absolutely not. Do I think you are spouting ignorance against a defenseless child? Absolutely. Maybe you need to go back and actually read what you've written. I was shocked that someone could think something like that let alone say it. All our children have in this world are us to protect them. To say they "like" being hurt is just ludicrous.

Health Insurance

Editor, Times-Union:
I am writing this as a "heads up" for people in this area who have health insurance using Private HeathCare Systems as their PPO. Kosciusko Community Hospital canceled PHCS Oct. 31, 2005, so if PHCS is being used as your PPO, our local hospital is no longer in-network. As most people know, this fact is extremely important in making decisions regarding your healthcare.

In discussing with Kosciusko Community Hospital why they canceled PHCS, I discovered they felt PHCS was making unethical decisions and was unresponsive in efforts to resolve the problem. I learned this when I received a bill for tests in December that would have been covered 100 percent if KCH was in-network as it had been for a long time. KCH did put signs up mid-January to try to warn PHCS patients they were out-of-network. I have certainly alerted the employer my insurance is paid through and if you have PHCS insurance I hope you will ask your employer to investigate this matter also. My employer was unaware of the cancelation. KCH told me it was the responsibility of my Managed Care company to inform me PHCS no longer has a contract with Kosciusko Community Hospital. PHCS accepted no responsibility for telling my employer or me. Apparently, there is no state group supervising whether insurance companies behave themselves or not. Do you know of some authority to turn to or does one just look forward to being old enough for Medicare.

Editor, Times-Union:
While listening to WRSW 107.3FM at approximately 10:15 on March 7, I could not help but notice that one of my favorite spots, The Osgood Files, was interrupted as Charles Osgood began making comment on South Dakota's Gov. Mike Rounds intent to sign a new abortion bill into law. This was then followed by a replay of the earlier Osgood Files concerning military recruiters on campus. Is WRSW so sensitive to the abortion issue that they can't even broadcast their regularly scheduled programming, if it happens to pertain to abortion, regardless of the stance? Given the pre-paid and extremely redundant commercials WRSW broadcasts from the Life Issues Institute, I wouldn't think the Osgood Files would be breaking into any new territory.

I personally have absolutely no stand on this issue whatsoever. I feel that as a man, I could only have a somewhat diminished opinion if any, but also I feel given all the attention paid to this particular subject, that too many people ignore issues of more pressing and urgent need, of more paramount effect on our daily lives. Issues such as pollution, global warming, dependency on foreign oil, methamphetamine, child abuse and neglect, ect. ...

As one of the few features on WRSW that addresses important national issues from an intellectual standpoint, I am only distressed that even the Osgood Files seems to be subject to local pre-emption and censorship.
