Suffering
Editor, Times-Union:To all people who are suffering, and without hope, this is to you.
Life is at times very difficult, sometimes life is nearly unbearable.
I speak the truth when I tell you, I know how depressing the trials of life can be.
I grew up without a dad, and my mom was an alcoholic.
My mom is OK now, I love her very much.
My dad committed suicide about four years ago this March.
I have been through the alcoholism that nearly cost me my life, and the depression into which my father sank so deeply that he killed himself.
Yes I know. I have experienced the hopelessness that these things cause and the depths of depression that are a result.
But now, I have been set free, I am no longer drowning in a sea of hopelessness, I have overcome! But I could not do this myself; I needed help.
No I have not found all the answers, what I have found is peace, and a love that knows no end.
My friend, please don't stop reading.
I have been set free through the only real means of true healing that came when I placed my faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and by so doing I have this hope.
Now to those who may laugh or think I am nuts please, you too can know the unimaginable joy and hope unending that I have found through Jesus Christ.
Let me add this, I am not saying that I walk around with my head in the clouds, or that I never suffer. To say I never suffer would be a lie.
What I am saying is that Christ has given all of us who truly know Him the grace and hope to see us through ALL of life's troubles!
Friend, I don't know how to convince you that Jesus loves you or even convince you that He is real, except to say that if you knew Him like I and all others who know and love Him, you would need no convincing.
Christ loves all of us and died for all of us, God raised him from the dead for all of us and one day He will return from heaven for those who love, trust and follow Him.
These things will be hard for those who do not know Him to understand.
Place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and your eyes will be opened and you too will understand these things. Jesus will not force himself on you, the choice is yours.
"I (Jesus) am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10b.
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16.
"Apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5b.

Knox For Sheriff
Editor, Times-Union:Although Wally Knox and I have lived in this county for over 20 years, we only recently met. I was sufficiently impressed with his academic background, and hands-on experience in law enforcement, that I gladly accepted his invitation to serve as campaign chairman.
Besides his superior qualifications relative to the current slate of candidates, Wally and I established an instant personal rapport. He is a physically imposing man with an unusually great sense of humor. His combat experience as a river patrol boat crew member in the Mekong Delta and his vast experience in law enforcement have given him an unusually accurate grasp of reality and human behavior.
More than anything, however, his spiritual orientation has particularly impressed me. He is a solid family man who lives according to Christian principles. We need this kind of individual in charge of this county's law enforcement.
Judge Jarrette is currently touring the service club circuit educating us on the importance of this election. He said that the sheriff has more discretion in the area of law enforcement than the prosecutor and judge and therefore should be carefully scrutinized by the voting public. Wally will be appearing at various service clubs and civic groups in the county to introduce himself and his agenda.
Please take the time to meet Wally personally and vote accordingly. The campaign can use financial donations and we respectfully ask that you consider supporting his campaign.

Eye Donation
Editor, Times-Union:March has been designated National Eye Donor month. Have you told your next-of-kin that you would like to donate your eyes to the eye bank upon your death? Many people in our own state are waiting for a corneal transplant and only a human cornea can be used - no substitutes have yet been found.
Replacing the cornea to provide improved sight has been called a dramatic transplant because of its high rate of success. However, the eyes must be removed within six to 10 hours after death, and informing your next-of-kin of your desire to give the gift of sight will make it more likely to happen. Physicians are reluctant to remove eyes or other organs without permission of next-of-kin.
