Thanks To Red Cross

Editor, Times-Union:
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Red Cross for all their help and generosity. During the recent power outages, several of our Cardinal Center group homes had to be evacuated for the night and the residents were moved to our main building. We contacted the Red Cross to see if they could assist us with bedding for 25 people. They informed us that all their cots were set up at the shelter. We discussed what our needs were and they said they would call us back. In less then an hour, they met our needs. New air mattresses were brought from Wabash for us to use.

Thanks to the Red Cross for making this difficult time of relocating of our residents a little easier. We would also like to thank the residential staff and our maintenance supervisor, who assisted to meet the needs of our residents.

Elections

Editor, Times-Union:
Is the election process that campaign finance reformers hope to protect worth preserving? I say no, it is not. Elections, like other aspects of democratic government, seem to deny the most basic lessons of history: Men are not basically good and given time and opportunity tend toward that which is evil. This is equally true of both voters and their proxy law-makers. Through democratic processes, like elections and campaigns, the cumulative depravity of a society erodes even the best statutes and laws. Over time the worst that human behavior has to offer becomes legalized in the name of increased "freedom." This inevitability cannot be halted by any number of "checks and balances" or reforms. True reformation must begin with questioning the very premise of democratic law-making. For more reasonings along these lines see www.shadowgov.com

No Recognition For Valley

Editor, Times-Union:
The Lady Vikings have accomplished a new goal for Tippecanoe Valley and have received virtually no recognition from the only area newspaper. Shame on you. They won a sectional title for the first time in the school's history.

There were no pictures of the winning team published after the Sectional Championship game. There were no articles all week about Valley or any of the opponents in their regional. You ignored the only area team in post-season play. Shame on you.

By ignoring or your failure to promote the team, you have failed to recognize the Lady Vikings and their coaching staff for a job well done. They have worked long and hard to reach this goal and certainly deserved more than this paper offered. Shame on you.

P.S. Monday night's coverage of the Regional was a much better tribute and the way the Sectional should have been handled. Kudos to Gary for the fine photo coverage.

A long-time Valley fan,
